The 18th round of Serie A saw some exciting matches and results, as Milan maintain their lead at the top of the table, Juventus reduce the distance from Inter to two points, and Atalanta climb to the sixth spot. Here is a recap of the main games of the day.

Juventus is -2 to the nerazzurri

Juventus won 1-0 against Roma in a clash between Allegri and Mourinho, two former rivals in the Premier League. The Bianconeri create the best chances in the first half, with Vlahovic and Kostic testing Rui Patricio.

The Serbian striker is also involve in the decisive goal, as he set up Rabiot for a close-range finish in the 47th minute. The result brought Juventus closer to Inter, who are still first with 45 points.

Pioli saves Serie A position

Milan beat Sassuolo 1-0 at the San Siro, thanks to a second-half goal by Pulisic, who convert a perfect assist by Bennacer. The Rossoneri have two goals disallow in the first half for offside, but they show more quality and determination than the visitors.

Juventus wins against Roma and moves to within 2 points of Serie A leaders Inter; important victory for Salernitana and Milan, Udinese surprises Bologna

The win give them 36 points, four more than Fiorentina, who are second: while Atalanta defeated Lecce 1-0 away, with a surgical shot from the edge of the box by Lookman in the 58th minute. The hosts wast two clear opportunities with Krstovic, and also lose Scalvini to an injury in the warm-up.

The victory lifted Atalanta to the sixth position with 29 points, while Lecce remained on 20. Udinese surprise Bologna with a 3-0 win at the Bluenergy Stadium, thanks to a dominant performance and three goals by Pereyra, Lucca and Payero. The latter two score in quick succession at the start of the second half, leaving Thiago Motta’s side stunned and unable to react. The Friulani move to +3 from the relegation zone, while Bologna dropp to the fifth place.

Salernitana: Serie A starts now

Salernitana secure a vital win in their fight for survival, as they beat Hellas Verona 1-0 with a low shot by Loum Tchaouna in the 18th round. It is the second win of the season for the team coached by Pippo Inzaghi, who celebrate with his players and fans. The Campanians reache 12 points, only two away from safety. Hellas Verona remaine third from the bottom, tied with Cagliari on 14.

The last match of 2023 in Serie A end in a goalless draw between Cagliari and Empoli. The Sardinians thought they had scored in the 66th minute with Viola, but the goal is ruled out for a foul by Pavoletti on Caprile. The goalkeeper, for today, will be the hero, as he save a penalty by Viola in the 82nd minute, denying Ranieri’s side to win.
