Inter dominated the match against Salernitana, winning 4-0 and extending their lead over Juventus to 10 points. The Nerazzurri scored two goals in two minutes in the first half, with Thuram and Martinez, both on assists from Carlos Augusto, and the third goal with Dumfries, also in the first half. Arnautovic closed the accounts in the 90th minute.
Salernitana, last in the standings and with new coach Liverani, never bothered Inzaghi’s team, who managed ball possession and created numerous goal scoring opportunities. The difference in quality between the two teams evidents, and Inter prove to be up there on merit; the Nerazzurri dominated the Campani.
The first goal came in the 17th minute, when Carlos Augusto served a perfect assist to Thuram, who beat Ochoa with a precise shot. Two minutes later, the same Carlos Augusto launched Martinez, who dribbled past Boateng and scored the double.
Salernitana tried to react, but suffered another blow in the 40th minute, when Dumfries took advantage of an Ochoa rebound and scored the third goal with his foot. In the second half, Inter controlled the game and came close to scoring with Calhanoglu and Barella, before finding it in the 90th minute with Arnautovic, who came on for Thuram. About 15 minutes from the end, Inzaghi also brought on Buchanan, who showed in some actions what he could be capable of.
Inter thus won their 20th victory in 24 matches, taking their tally to 63 points, while Salernitana remained stuck on 13 points, eight points from the salvation zone.
