On an evening of pure footballing magic, Inter proved once again that they are the team to beat in Serie A, overcoming Empoli with a convincing 2-0 win on matchday 30.
After the draw with Napoli, the Nerazzurri resumed their path to triumph, scoring a victory that strengthened their position at the top of the table.
The break for the national teams’ commitments did not affect Inter’s determination, who added another crucial step towards the Scudetto and the second star.
Inzaghi’s team, meeting Empoli at the Meazza, exhibited a solid and concrete performance, exemplifying the gap that separates the Nerazzurri from the rest of the championship.
A gap highlighted by a superiority not only physical but also technical-tactical and goal-scoring.
The home line-up saw Audero defend the posts, with Pavard preferred to Bisseck in defence and the Thuram-Lautaro duo leading the attack.
Empoli, engaged in the fight to avoid the relegation zone and without the disqualified Maleh, responded with a combative 3-5-2. However, Inter’s game prevailed right from the start.
It only takes Inter five minutes
The Meazza cheered in the fifth minute, when Dimarco found the goal with an accurate left-footed counter-balance. Shortly afterwards, Bastoni came close to doubling the score, but his shot was deflected off the post by Caprile.
In the second half, Empoli tried to fight back, but Inter kept a firm grip on the game, going close to doubling the score through Barella and Pavard.
Changes saw Lautaro and Bastoni leave the field to applause, and in the 81st minute, Sanchez sealed the result with a goal on an assist from Dumfries.
Milan sent back to -14
With these three points, Inter rise to 79 points, distancing AC Milan by 14 points and moving ever closer to the title. At the Meazza, it was an evening of celebration, a celebration of football that rewards the consistency and quality of a team that seems destined to dominate the Italian scene. For Inter, the road to the second star is getting closer and closer…
