Inter had two out of three results to go ahead in the competition and continue their dream of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the second year in a row.

The team of ‘Cholo’ Simeone, however, has always given great performances at home and above all has always conceded little to the opponents. After the first few minutes of study, Inter and Atletico gave life to a match made of continuous reversals on both sides. In the 35th minute, Inter took the lead through Dimarco, unmarked in the box by Barella.

Inter started with the advantage of the first leg but failed to bring home the Champions League round; Atletico Madrid went through, fought on every ball

The lead was only two minutes old, however, with Griezman’s equaliser deftly turned in the box and headed in a loose ball.
A first half that was essentially balanced and fair in the result, although we must stress the lack of brilliance of Inzaghi’s team.

Atletico’s lead at the end of the period

The second half continued in the same vein as the first, with the Nerazzurri able to strike on the counter-attack, with Thuram and Barella inaccurate in the scoring phase. Before Depay’s goal in the 87th minute, Atletico hit a sensational post that reminded the Inter fans of the one in Porto last season.
Before the end of 90 minutes, Griezman had a chance for 3-1 but sent the ball over the crossbar.

Penalty kicks for Inter

In extra time, Depay again committed Sommer. The match ended with the result 2-1 in tiredness.
The penalty shoot-out, however, was malignant and mocking; Inter, probably not with their best men at the penalty spot, missed the penalties with Sanchez, Klassen and Lautaro, which started the party in Madrid.
Inter eliminated to the joy of many and the bitterness of many…now head only to the championship.
