Serie A returns and the hunt for Italian champions Inter starts again. Called to open the season the Nerazzurri did not go beyond the 2-2 on the field of Genoa. A fair result in some respects but a narrow one for the way things were looking a few minutes from the end.
Not the best Inter, the heat and the preparation most likely still weighed on the legs of Inzaghi’s men, who appeared less incisive than in the past. The match saw Genoa take the lead in the 20th minute thanks to a short clearance by Sommer, on which Vogliacco promptly scored with a winning tap-in.
A difficult start for Inter, with the champions ready to recover the disadvantage with Thuram, a masterful header on the half-hour mark. In the final, Gollini kept the score level by clearing on Lautaro, with Badelj then able to save Dimarco’s shot on the goal line.
Victory for inter escapes with minutes to go
In the second half, the pearl of Thuram’s tikus Thuram for the Nerazzurri’s lead was thwarted by a touch of hand, unintentional or not, but it was there, by Bisseck who gave away the penalty, parried and rebounded into the net by Messias, for the final equaliser.
A fair result on points, but one that, with a little more attention, would have allowed Inter to start the season with their first three points. For Inzaghi Genoa and Genoa continue to represent a taboo, the coach from Piacenza in fact has never won in the Ligurian capital.
We are however at the first match and the time to recover is not lacking, for Simone however, it already looks like an illusory crisis.
The other matches all ended in a draw, with AC Milan good at recovering the double disadvantage against Torino in the final. Parma and Fiorentina drew one to one. Empoli Monza zero to zero.
