Milan made no mistake and brought home a crucial 2-1 victory against Fiorentina, a success that not only distanced Juventus by six points but also secured second place in the standings. Absolute protagonist of the match Rafael Leao, author of the assist for the Rossoneri’s lead and of the match-winning goal.
Despite a first half in which the Rossoneri’s domination did not materialise with a goal, the match was lit up in the second half thanks to Leao. The Portuguese first provided an ingenious backheel assist to Loftus-Cheek and then, just six minutes later, launched deep into the box by Reijnders, beat the opponent’s goalkeeper to score the final 2-1. In between was Duncan’s momentary equaliser.
Maignan saves Milan
Mike Maignan then denied Belotti and Mandragora the goal of the possible equaliser with important saves, demonstrating the value of the player. Fiorentina, on the other hand, failed to pick up any points in their first match since the passing of Joe Barone.
With this victory, AC Milan showed that they are currently one of the most in-form teams both in Italy and in Europe, a declared goal of Pioli and the club. For Fiorentina, the regret remains of not having been able to capitalise on the goal chances and to say goodbye to Barone in the best possible way.
