Dopo l'ennesimo disastro sportivo che ha condannato l'Italia alla terza esclusione consecutiva dai Mondiali, forse i colpi presi in maniera drastica potranno servire a far rinascere dalle ceneri qualcosa di diverso. Perché l’Italia oggi è all’anno zero e si trova nella situazione più lucida possibile, cioè è quasi impossibile tentare qualcosa, tanto peggio di come sono andate le cose. Quindi il nome per ripartire, o come lui stesso ha ammesso, per gettare le basi per chi gli succederà è quello di Silvio Baldini. Con lui in panchina gli Azzurri si ritrovano a dare il via al comizio in partenza per il Lussemburgo il 2 giugno.

L'era Baldini inizia così, con un elenco di 24 convocati, mescolati tra le certezze della Nazionale maggiore e le più forti della sua Under 21. Le atlete sono chiamate a disputare le partite contro Lussemburgo e Grecia, con il primo allenamento assoluto disputato nel pomeriggio di venerdì 29 maggio. Le date? Il match contro la squadra di Jeff Strasser si svolgerà il 2 giugno alle 20.45, mentre giovedì i convocati torneranno a Coverciano per riprendere gli allenamenti. Il tutto prima di domenica 7, quando prenderanno il volo verso Creta, che li porterà ad affrontare la Nazionale greca, con fischio d'inizio alle 21.
Baldini: “Partite d'aiuto a chi verrà dopo”
Un traghettatore schietto, consapevole del suo ruolo ma molto duro nei confronti dei vertici del nostro movimento. Silvio Baldini si presenta a Coverciano per le amichevoli contro Lussemburgo e Grecia con una sincerità disarmante, ereditando la panchina italiana dopo le dimissioni di Gattuso e Buffon: "Se sono qui è perché si sono dimessi, se non lo avessero fatto non sarei qui. Ho la possibilità di giocare queste due partite e devono essere di aiuto a chi verrà dopo". Il tecnico liquida subito i voli di fantasia dei tifosi, mettendo il rispetto del merito davanti a tutto: "Per allenare la Nazionale che ha quattro titoli mondiali ci vuole un certo curriculum e io questo curriculum non ce l'ho. So che i tifosi tifano per il cambiamento, ma so che non devo fare il pavone". La vera bomba, però, la sgancia Baldini sul fallimento sistemico che costò all'Italia il terzo Mondiale consecutivo, attaccando frontalmente i palazzi del potere: "Il calcio italiano è in mano a dirigenti che pensano solo ai propri interessi, non alla crescita del calcio. Il focus non è sui giovani ma sul fare mercato con i giocatori più anziani. Ci sono quelli che io chiamo truffatori che hanno in mano il filo della partita". Poi c'è spazio per le scelte di campo, nate dalla ferita ancora aperta della sconfitta contro la Bosnia, con una rosa piena di ragazzi della sua Under 21 e guidata da alcuni big: "Ho chiamato il mio gruppo e altri giocatori come Donnarumma e Pio Esposito perché guardo all'Olimpiade. L'unico che mi ha contattato è stato Donnarumma e non mi sembrava vero di poterlo avere". "Sono assolutamente convinto che i ragazzi nelle prossime due amichevoli non faranno bene, ma molto bene".
