Cardinal, Milan joins DAZN: RedBird becomes minority shareholder

In recent weeks, Gerry Cardinale has moved another pawn on the financial chessboard that intertwines sport, technology and streaming. RedBird Capital Partners, the fund that controls the Rossoneri club, has sold its EverPass Media to DAZN, the platform created in 2023 together with 32 Equity to bring live sports content to commercial premises - bars, hotels, restaurants. In exchange for the transaction, RedBird enters the capital of DAZN as a minority shareholder, together with the other partners involved, including 32 Equity and TKO Group Holdings.

Cosa cambia per EverPass

The company will continue to operate, but will change its skin: it will become DAZN for Business, the branch of the group dedicated to commercial distribution. CEO Alex Kaplan will remain at the helm, who will take on a strategic role within the new structure, while the technology developed by EverPass will become the basis for the expansion of the platform in the United States.

Il valore dell'operazione per Cardinale

The financial details of the operation have not been made official by the parties involved. According to some estimates circulated in the press, the company share acquired by Cardinale in DAZN would be worth around 415 million euros, compared to an overall valuation of EverPass Media estimated at around 750 million. A number that tells the size of the deal well and confirms how RedBird is not simply disinvesting from EverPass, but is transforming that investment into a direct stake in one of the main sports broadcasters in the world.

Le parole di Cardinale

The AC Milan owner himself commented on the operation, explaining that EverPass was born "at a time when sports content continues to move towards streaming". Cardinale added that he is ready to work closely with DAZN to grow the project on a global scale.

Le ricadute possibili sulla Serie A

Beyond the purely financial aspect, Cardinale's entry into the governance of DAZN does not go unnoticed from a football perspective: the platform in fact holds the TV rights of Serie A, Serie B and the Spanish La Liga until 2029, the year in which the League will have to announce the new package for the following five years. A Milan which, through RedBird, now also sits on the other side of the table - that of the broadcaster - will find itself managing that negotiation from an at least unprecedented position: owner of a club that sells the rights, minority shareholder of whoever buys them.
