Samir Handanovic è stato uno dei pochi che, quando la squadra non brillava, ha tenuto in piedi la baracca. É stato quello che, all’ultima giornata ha salvato l’Inter da una qualificazione che stava sfumando. É stato quello che, quando subiva un rigore contro, era l’attaccante ad avere paura di calciare, non lui di subire gol.
Insomma, Samir é stato una colonna portante dell’Inter per 14 anni, ma che, come ormai stanno facendo in molti, ha deciso di lasciare il progetto: «Abbiamo parlato a marzo, mi avevano offerto la Primavera, era un’opportunità di crescita, avrei accettato, ma volevo giocare col mio gruppo. Parlo di giocatori, di ragazzi, anche sotto età. Con cui impostare un programma di crescita. Ma nei settori giovanili italiani c’è un’abitudine sbagliata, che è una delle cause dei vostri problemi. Avrei allenato i miei ragazzi in settimana e pol in partita avrei dovuto fare giocare chi non l’aveva fatto nell’Under 23.
Il senso di tutto ciò? Se non sei buono per giocare in Serie C, perché devi farlo con la Primavera? Il club non ha accettato il mio principio, cosi mi sono fatto da parte. Peccato averlo saputo a giugno, quando non c’era più tempo per trovare un altro posto. Pazienza, l’occasione arriverà. Fra due settimane faccio l’esame Uefa Pro, credo di essere pronto. Ho voglia di lavorare con i grandi». Un passaggio emblematico, in cui Handanovic non solo sottolinea l’incapacità della società di stare al passo con i tempi e con le sue idee, ma evidenzia anche il ritardo con cui gli è stato comunicato, lasciandolo senza squadra.
Si perché Handanovic non è stato solo un ottimo portiere, ma è anche sempre stato un appassionato del calcio e un suo grandissimo studioso: «Arriva da lontano. Amo il calcio, vivo di calcio, lo studiavo già ai primi anni di carriera. Oggi guardo decine di partite in tv a settimana. Anche la Serie B e la Primavera, non solo i grandi campionati. C'è studio, si. Ma anche passione. Sono il portiere che ha parato più rigori in A, oggi gli analisti preparano tutto per i giocatori. lo già a Udine mi facevo dare i cd per studiare gli attaccanti. Ne ho parati 32, ma avrei potuto pararne anche di
ріù».
E i suoi modelli, in termini di allenatori, sono molto chiari: «Ci sono tanti allenatori bravi, mi piace il lavoro di Sarri, credo che il suo Napoli vada citato sempre, anche se non ha vinto. Una squadra forte e molto bella da vedere. Ricordo che pur da calciatore e avversario, cercavo di vedere sempre ogni loro partita. E pol Gasperini e anche Spalletti. Ammiro molto anche De Zerbi. Quando, nell'estate 23 è scaduto il contratto con l'Inter, ho parlato con lui per andare a Brighton. Per giocare ancora, sì. Ma soprattutto per vederlo lavorare».
Mentre, per quanto riguarda il presente, le sue attenzioni si rivolgono principalmente alle due squadre di Milano: « lo Sporting di Amorim era una squadra incredibile, 3-4-3 formidabile. Il Milan ha un ottimo allenatore, può essere competitivo gia quest'anno…Chivu lo conosco bene siamo stati compagni di squadra. Sa di calcio, non mi ha stupito nulla di quello che ha fatto l'anno scorso. Può ripetersi».
L’ex capitano nerazzurro ripercorre anche i suoi anni all’Inter, vedendo in Luciano Spalletti la figura cardine, rispetto ad altri allenatori che hanno beneficiato del suo lavoro: «Con Conte, poi abbiamo vinto, ma è con Spalletti che sono state create le fondamenta. E quella non era una squadra fortissima, da scudetto, siamo arrivati due volte quarti all'ultima giornata, ma era il nostro valore. Poi con Conte, la sua mentalità e la sua tattica, sono arrivati acquisti importanti: ed è nato lo zoccolo duro dell'Inter vincente, di cui hanno beneficiato anche gli allenatori successivi ».
Per lui tante gioie, ma anche più di qualche rimpianto: «Potevo vincere qualcosa in più, ma i primi anni in Italia c'era un livello altissimo. Anche la mia Udinese di allora, nel calcio di oggi lotterebbe per le prime posizioni. E poi forse mi manca un'esperienza all’estero ».

I would have trained my boys during the week and then in the match I would have had to let those who hadn't done so in the Under 23s play.
The meaning of all this? If you're not good enough to play in Serie C, why do you have to do it with the Primavera? The club didn't accept my principle, so I stepped aside. It's a shame that I found out in June, when there was no more time to find another place. Patience, the opportunity will come. I'll take the UEFA Pro exam in two weeks, I think I'm ready. I want to work with the greats." An emblematic passage, in which Handanovic not only underlines the club's inability to keep up with the times and with his ideas, but also highlights the delay with which it was communicated to him, leaving him without a team.
Yes, because Handanovic was not only an excellent goalkeeper, but he has also always been a fan of football and a great scholar of it: «He comes from afar. I love football, I live for football, I studied it already in the first years of my career. Today I watch dozens of games on TV a week. Even Serie B and Primavera, not just the big leagues. There is study, yes. But also passion. I am the goalkeeper who has saved the most penalties in Serie A, today the analysts prepare everything for the players. Already in Udine I was given CDs to study the attackers. I saved 32, but I could have saved even more."
And his models, in terms of coaches, are very clear: «There are many good coaches, I like Sarri's work, I believe that his Napoli should always be mentioned, even if they didn't win. A strong team and very beautiful to see. I remember that even as a footballer and opponent, I always tried to watch every match. And pol Gasperini and also Spalletti. I also greatly admire De Zerbi. When the contract with Inter expired in the summer of '23, I spoke with him about going to Brighton. To play again, yes. But above all to see him work."
While, as regards the present, his attention is mainly directed towards the two Milan teams: « Amorim's Sporting was an incredible team, a formidable 3-4-3. Milan has an excellent coach, they can be competitive already this year... I know Chivu well, we were teammates. He knows about football, nothing he did last year surprised me. It can happen again."
The former Nerazzurri captain also looks back on his years at Inter, seeing Luciano Spalletti as the key figure, compared to other coaches who benefited from his work: «With Conte, we then won, but it was with Spalletti that the foundations were created. And that wasn't a very strong team, worthy of a championship, we came fourth twice on the last day, but it was our value. Then with Conte, his mentality and his tactics, important purchases arrived: and the hard core of a winning Inter was born, from which subsequent coaches also benefited."
For him many joys, but also more than a few regrets: «I could have won something more, but the first years in Italy there was a very high level. Even my Udinese of the time, in today's football, would fight for the top positions. And then maybe I'm missing experience abroad."
