Chivu returns to talk to B/R Football about the incredible season he spent on the Inter bench.
Between ambitions, the locker room and behind the scenes, the Romanian coach retraced the Doblete's year.
"As a player and now as a coach, I feel a great responsibility towards this club. I know its history and I know how much it means to the fans: it is a special feeling to experience all this both on the pitch and on the bench."
Chivu e le aspettative alte
Expectations were high, declared the Nerazzurri coach, who already knew the story well, having made it on the pitch at the time of the Treble. A season with a lot of pressure and a lot of negativity that came from the outside, but which he managed well without any problems.
"The season was very demanding and the fight for the title was close until the end. Expectations were high, especially because we did not have complete preparation due to the Club World Cup and we only had three weeks of vacation. This situation made itself felt throughout the year. Despite the difficulties, the group showed great ambition, responsibility and spirit of sacrifice. Everyone gave their contribution and, thanks to hard work every day, we managed step by step to build a competitive team. Always trying to give our best and exceed our limits, we reached the final finish line and were able to celebrate at the end of the season."
Chivu, la menzione d'onore per Lautaro
Finally, special praise goes to his captain, Lautaro Martinez, who closed the season with trophies, MVPs and top scorer. "Speaking of Lautaro, I think he is a special player. In the history of Inter there have always been great strikers who have left their mark, and he belongs to this tradition. The difference is that Lautaro is still playing for us and continues to improve his numbers. He is already among the best scorers in the club's history, occupying third place, and he still has time to write other important pages with this shirt."
A season that seemed like it was going to be tragic, but Chivu picked up the pieces of a puzzle that seemed irrecoverable, calmly and diplomatically rebuilt it step by step, going through a few defeats that never made him waver even for a second. Step by step, like a brother and father to some players, defending the Inter that he has had in his heart for a long time, because in his case, once an Inter player, always an Inter player. Mister Chivu wanted to give hope to the fans again, and he has been worthy of the club since day one.
