Ci sono notizie che il popolo interista vorrebbe non ricevere mai. Prova a rimandarle, a evitarle, ma prima o poi diventa impossibile scappare. Dopo anni trascorsi dietro le quinte a trattare e programmare, le strade di Piero Ausilio e dell’Inter si separano. Tra le parti arriva la risoluzione immediata e al suo post Oaktree si affiderà a Baccin. Un addio che chiude uno dei rapporti più longevi della storia recente nerazzurra, durato circa 28 anni. La società, in accordo con il direttore sportivo, avrebbe deciso di non formulare una proposta di rinnovo, prendendo atto della volontà di Ausilio di chiudere la sua lunghissima esperienza all’Inter.
Una vita in nerazzurro
28 anni, diverse proprietà ma sempre un’unica costante: Piero Ausilio. La sua avventura all’Inter inizia nel gennaio del 1998, quando entra nel club come segretario del Settore Giovanile. Con il passare degli anni riesce a ritagliarsi sempre più spazio, diventando prima responsabile del vivaio e poi avvicinandosi alla Prima Squadra. Dalla stagione 2009/10 inizia, infatti, a lavorare al fianco di dirigenti come Gabriele Oriali e Marco Branca, aumentando le proprie responsabilità.
La svolta arriva nel 2014. Dopo l’addio di Branca, Ausilio diventa il principale punto di riferimento dell’area sportiva nerazzurra, conquistando un ruolo centrale nella gestione del mercato e nella costruzione della squadra. Sono anni complicati per l’Inter, che cerca di tornare ai vertici dopo la fine del ciclo del Triplete e che, nello stesso periodo, affronta anche il passaggio dalla proprietà Moratti a quella di Erick Thohir. Ausilio rimane al suo posto anche negli anni successivi, attraversando un altro cambio di proprietà con l’arrivo di Suning. Nel 2018 inizia poi la collaborazione con Giuseppe Marotta, aprendo una nuova fase della sua lunga esperienza nerazzurra.
Dietro la costruzione dell’Inter vincente
Nel corso degli anni Ausilio ha messo la firma su diverse operazioni importanti, alcune delle quali hanno portato grandi risultati sia dal punto di vista sportivo che economico. Una delle più significative è sicuramente quella di Romelu Lukaku, acquistato dal Manchester United nel 2019 per circa 74 milioni di euro. Dopo essere stato uno dei protagonisti dello Scudetto del 2021, il belga viene ceduto al Chelsea per circa 115 milioni, permettendo all’Inter di realizzare una grande plusvalenza. Un altro esempio è André Onana, arrivato a parametro zero dall’Ajax nel 2022 e venduto al Manchester United solamente un anno dopo per oltre 50 milioni.
Diverso, invece, il caso di Lautaro Martínez. Acquistato dal Racing Club nel 2018 per circa 25 milioni di euro, l’argentino è diventato negli anni uno dei punti fermi della squadra. Con la maglia nerazzurra ha superato le 150 reti in tutte le competizioni, entrando tra i migliori marcatori della storia dell’Inter, oltre a diventare capitano della squadra. Un investimento relativamente contenuto che, a distanza di anni, rappresenta ancora oggi una delle operazioni più riuscite dell’era Ausilio. Il suo lavoro sul mercato ha così accompagnato la crescita dell’Inter, dalle difficoltà degli anni precedenti fino al ritorno ai vertici del calcio italiano ed europeo.
E ora, quale futuro?
Dopo quasi trent’anni insieme, per l’Inter è arrivato, quindi, il momento di iniziare a pensare al dopo Ausilio. Il dirigente é pronto a cambiare strada e a valutare una nuova esperienza, con la possibilità di proseguire la propria carriera lontano dall’Italia. E l’Inter di Oaktree cosa farà?. Al momento non c’è ancora nulla di ufficiale ma con ogni probabilità a gestire i prossimi mercati dell’Inter potrebbe essere proprio il vice di Ausilio, Baccin che sarà chiamato a non far rimpiangere quello che negli ultimi 12 anni è stato senza dubbio assieme al presidente Marotta l’uomo che ha dato il volto ai mercati nerazzurri. Dopo 28 stagioni è quindi arrivata ai titoli di coda l’esperienza di Ausilio all’Inter, ma il segno lasciato dal direttore sportivo resterà inevitabilmente legato a una lunga parte della storia recente nerazzurra.

Una vita in nerazzurro
28 years, different properties but always one constant: Piero Ausilio. His adventure at Inter began in January 1998, when he joined the club as secretary of the Youth Sector. As the years went by, he managed to carve out more and more space for himself, first becoming manager of the youth team and then moving closer to the First Team. In fact, from the 2009/10 season he began to work alongside managers such as Gabriele Oriali and Marco Branca, increasing his responsibilities.
The turning point came in 2014. After Branca's farewell, Ausilio became the main point of reference in the Nerazzurri sporting area, gaining a central role in managing the transfer market and building the team. These are complicated years for Inter, who are trying to get back to the top after the end of the Treble cycle and who, in the same period, also face the transition from Moratti's ownership to that of Erick Thohir. Ausilio remained in place in the following years, going through another change of ownership with the arrival of Suning. In 2018 he then began his collaboration with Giuseppe Marotta, opening a new phase in his long Nerazzurri experience.

At the moment there is nothing official yet but in all likelihood it could be Ausilio's deputy, Baccin, who will manage the next Inter transfer markets, who will be called upon to ensure that in the last 12 years he has undoubtedly been, together with president Marotta, the man who has given the face of the Nerazzurri transfer markets. After 28 seasons Ausilio's experience at Inter has therefore reached the final headlines, but the mark left by the sporting director will inevitably remain linked to a long part of the Nerazzurri's recent history.
