Dopo l’addio di Conte, in molti parlavano di un Napoli che non sarebbe stato in grado di mantenere così alta l’asticella, dovendosi arrendere a una stagione, seppur ai vertici, non più ancora in lotta per il titolo. Eppure eccoci qua: a inseguire i nerazzurri c’è nuovamente la squadra il Napoli, che su un campo difficile come quello di Marassi, riesce a portare a casa i tre punti, grazie alle reti di De Bruyne e Vergara, entrambi subentrati dalla panchina.

Nella prima frazione emergono diverse incertezze nella squadra di Allegri: un possesso palla per lo più sterile, una manovra lenta e facilmente prevedibile, oltre che pochissime occasioni in zona gol. Il Grifone, d’altra parte, non sta lì certo ad aspettare il Napoli nella propria trequarti campo, anzi, pressa alto spingendo all’errore la squadra di Allegri, come al 6’ sull’errore di Meret in impostazione, che per poco non vale l’1-0 di Vitinha. Oltretutto, la squadra di De Rossi sembra sempre essere molto più convinta e determinata nel voler sbloccare la gara, costruendo diverse occasioni da gol, molte delle quali finiscono nei piedi di un tarantolato Baldanzi, che però non riesce mai a trovare il fondo della rete.
A un primo tempo fiacco e senza troppe occasioni, dove principalmente a rendersi pericoloso è stato il Genoa, risponde un secondo tempo sulla stessa falsariga. Squadra di casa che cerca di fare la partita, mentre il Napoli, pur mantenendo un maggior possesso palla, non riesce mai a rendersi realmente pericoloso dalle parti di Bijlow. Ma lo sforzo della squadra di De Rossi non viene ripagato nel risultato e, più passa il tempo, più la stanchezza inizia a farsi sentire. Questo per il Napoli è un invito a nozze. Allegri fiuta questa opportunità e al 67’ fa un doppio cambio che risulta decisivo: De Bruyne per Anguissa e Vergara per Politano. Entrambi fanno gol e assist, regalando un dolce esordio sulla panchina del Napoli a Massimiliano Allegri.
Il primo gol del Napoli ha scatenato non poche polemiche, facendo infuriare la panchina rossoblù, De Rossi e Sabelli su tutti. Ma cosa è successo? E, soprattutto, il gol era regolare o andava annullato? De Bruyne e Vergara combinano al limite dell’area di rigore, con quest’ultimo che di tacco imbuca per il centrocampista belga. Vasquez legge la situazione e si frappone tra il pallone e il numero 11 del Napoli, che va a contrasto con la schiena e le gambe del difensore del Grifone. Vasquez cade a terra, ma Di Bello valuta l’intensità del contatto come quella di un normale scontro di gioco e lascia proseguire l’azione, che si conclude con la rete di De Bruyne. La decisione ha fatto discutere: il contatto tra il belga e Vasquez è stato infatti il motivo delle vibranti proteste rossoblù. Subito dopo il gol si scatena il finimondo sulla panchina del Genoa: tutti si alzano in piedi per protestare, mentre De Rossi viene trattenuto a forza dal quarto uomo Manganiello. Anche in campo i giocatori rossoblù circondano l’arbitro, chiedendo l’intervento del VAR. Dalla sala VAR di Lissone, però, non arriva alcuna indicazione per una revisione: la valutazione di campo di Di Bello viene quindi confermata e il gol vale lo 0-1 del Napoli. La rete, arrivata all’82’, ha poi spianato la strada al successo degli azzurri, che hanno chiuso la partita sullo 0-2. La decisione resta dunque discutibile sul piano interpretativo, ma il VAR non ha ravvisato gli estremi per correggere la valutazione dell’arbitro. Il contatto è stato considerato parte della normale dinamica di gioco e, di conseguenza, la rete è stata convalidata.

Dopo l’esordio sulla panchina del Napoli, Massimiliano Allegri si è espresso così sulla partita:”La prima partita è sempre curiosa. Conosco la squadra da un mese, un mese e mezzo, quindi anche nelle sostituzioni non conosci dei giocatori che, quando entrano, possono fare o non possono fare. Sono dei giocatori che dal subentro possono far meglio di altri. Quindi c'è stata un po' di indecisione nel fare le sostituzioni, e poi sono stati veramente bravi. La partita è stata complicata perché comunque i primi 20, 25, 30 minuti il Genoa ha fatto una buona partita, dove noi abbiamo sbagliato tecnicamente molto, nelle fasi di uscita. Lì ci hanno creato un po' di difficoltà. Poi, più andava avanti la partita, più la partita veniva dalla nostra parte”.
Ecco invece il commento sull’occasione del gol del vantaggio di Kevin De Bruyne:”Da bordo campo? Allora, giù, neanche quando avevo 15 anni, che c'avevo la vista a 10 decimi, era facile. Quindi no, ero lontano, non l'ho vista".

Furthermore, De Rossi's team always seems to be much more convinced and determined in wanting to break the deadlock, building several scoring opportunities, many of which end up at the feet of a tarantula Baldanzi, who however never manages to find the back of the net.
A weak first half without too many opportunities, where Genoa was the main threat, was followed by a second half along the same lines. Home team trying to play the game, while Napoli, despite maintaining greater ball possession, never manages to be truly dangerous in Bijlow's area. But the effort of De Rossi's team is not rewarded in the result and, the more time passes, the more tiredness begins to be felt. This is a wedding invitation for Napoli. Allegri senses this opportunity and in the 67th minute makes a double substitution which proves decisive: De Bruyne for Anguissa and Vergara for Politano. Both scored goals and assisted, giving Massimiliano Allegri a sweet debut on the Napoli bench.

Even on the pitch, the rossoblù players surround the referee, asking for VAR intervention. From Lissone's VAR room, however, no indication comes for a review: Di Bello's on-field assessment is therefore confirmed and the goal makes it 0-1 for Napoli. The goal, which came in the 82nd minute, then paved the way for the success of the Azzurri, who ended the match at 0-2. The decision therefore remains questionable on an interpretative level, but the VAR did not recognize the grounds for correcting the referee's assessment. The contact was considered part of the normal game dynamics and, consequently, the goal was validated.

I have known the team for a month, a month and a half, so even in the substitutions you don't know players who, when they come on, can do or cannot do. They are players who can do better than others when they take over. So there was a bit of indecision in making the substitutions, and then they were really good. The match was complicated because in any case the first 20, 25, 30 minutes Genoa played a good match, where we made a lot of technical mistakes in the exit phases. Then, the longer the match went on, the more the match went our way."
