La storia d'amore tra Lautaro Martínez e l'Inter rappresenta probabilmente uno degli ultimi esempi di “bandiere” nel cacio moderno. Quei giocatori che si legano ai colori, al tifo, all'ambiente e al modo di vivere in una determinata città e che decidono di sposarla in tutti gli aspetti. È proprio questo il caso del capitano nerazzurro, arrivato nel luglio del 2018 e che ha appena cominciato la stagione numero 9 con i colori nerazzurri addosso. Al tempo era poco più che diciannovenne, era un ragazzo in cui Piero Ausilio ha visto il futuro, destinato a crescere sotto l'ala di Icardi, ma che poi ha finito per prenderne il posto nei cuori dei tifosi, piccoli e grandi.
In questa meravigliosa storia c'è stato però, a più riprese, un “terzo incomodo”: il Barcellona. Un club che a Lautaro ha sempre fatto un certo effetto, soprattutto per la possibilità (fino al 2023) di giocare con il suo idolo, Lionel Messi, con cui poi ha collezionato un Mondiale e una finale. Riprendendo la celeberrima frase dei Promessi Sposi “Questo matrimonio non s'ha da fare”, sembra proprio che Lautaro e il Barça viaggino su due rette parallele, che magari un giorno si incroceranno; ma quel giorno non è oggi.
Il primo interessamento
Dopo la prima stagione all'Inter, buona dal punto di vista realizzativo e dell'ambientamento, “El Toro” aveva già attirato su di sé l'interesse del club blaugrana. In quell'annata c'è stato forse l'avvicendamento più importante degli ultimi anni in casa Inter, il passaggio di consegne da Icardi a Lautaro. Il rifiuto di giocare e i certificati medici mandati dall'allora numero 9 (cosa che molti si dimenticano anche in chiave mercato), hanno spianato la strada al giovane Torito, che sotto la guida di Spalletti ha trovato 9 reti e 2 assist. L'ottima Copa America disputata in estate ha quindi fatto accendere i radar dei blaugrana, che al tempo si diceva fossero pronti a sborsare una cifra vicina ai 100 milioni di euro. Il budget è poi stato riversato su Antoine Griezmann, il quale definisce questo trasferimento un passo falso nella sua gloriosa carriera.
Il secondo assalto
Nell'estate del 2019 a Milano arriva un uomo che con l'Inter sembrava non avesse nulla a che fare. La società esonera Luciano Spalletti e sceglie Antonio Conte per tornare sul tetto d'Italia dopo 10 anni. Il tecnico leccese punta subito sul numero 10, che con Lukaku forma una coppia gol devastante. Nel 3-5-2 che poi diventerà la base del gioco dell'Inter per i 7 anni (e più) successivi, il Toro è la spalla perfetta del numero 9 belga, che con lui instaura un rapporto fantastico dentro e fuori dal campo. Lautaro terminerà la stagione con 14 gol in campionato, un secondo posto e una finale di Europa League persa proprio per un autogol del suo collega di reparto, ed è lì che il Barça ha provato a premere per strapparlo all'Inter. In quell'estate però l'Inter stava ultimando la macchina che 9 mesi più tardi si sarebbe laureata Campione d'Italia: rinunciare a un giocatore come Lautaro non era assolutamente nei piani di allenatore e società.
Lautaro allo scoperto: “Le voci sul Barcellona erano vere”
Arriviamo poi all'estate e alla sessione di mercato appena conclusa. Il Barcellona ha perso Robert Lewandowski e si è fiondato con tutte le sue forza su Julian Alvarez, connazionale del Toro, in forza all'Atlético Madrid (proprio il club a cui Lauti era stato vicinissimo prima di scegliere l'Inter). Tra polemiche sui social e in campo, però, “La Arana” non ha ottenuto il via libera per lasciare ed ecco la svolta. L'obiettivo del Barcellona è diventato ancora una volta Lautaro Martínez. Le voci erano insistenti, ma il Toro, ormai cresciuto e divenuto capitano e leader da anni, ha scelto di rimanere e respingere quegli assalti che però conservavano un certo fascino
Alla cerimonia del “Gran Galà del calcio” il capitano nerazzurro ha parlato della questione Barcellona, rivelando anche qualche dettaglio: “Sicuramente è un grande piacere, un grande onore e una soddisfazione enorme perché uno sempre lavora per migliorare, per andare avanti, per diventare migliore. Quando arrivano queste offerte o queste chiamate di questi grandissimi club sono sempre benvenute. È una cosa molto importante. Adesso sono in una città che dal primo giorno mi ha portato in maniera incredibile. Ho un ristorante, i miei figli vanno a scuola. Io sarò sempre quaPoi il calcio non si sa mai. Finché mi vogliono, che servono all'Inter saranno qua. Sicuramente, come dico sempre, in tutti i lavori succede. Quando non servi più alla fine poi ti mandano via. Io adesso sto qua con l'anima come dal primo giorno. Le voci che c'erano erano vere. Però alla fine ho voluto rimanere qua insieme ai miei compagni, insieme a questa gente, a questi tifosi che mi sono sempre magnifici”.
Con queste parole Lautaro ha voluto in qualche modo mettere da parte la possibilità di un trasferimento, lasciando però uno spiraglio aperto per chissà quale futuro. Il Toro ama l'Inter e Milano, ha una vita stabile e ha attività proprio nella capoluogo lombardo. A differenza di alcuni suoi ex colleghi ha capito la frase significativa: “se stai bene in un posto, restaci”.

In that year there was perhaps the most important change in recent years at Inter, the handover from Icardi to Lautaro. The refusal to play and the medical certificates sent by the then number 9 (which many forget even in terms of the transfer market), paved the way for the young Torito, who under the guidance of Spalletti found 9 goals and 2 assists. The excellent Copa America played in the summer therefore put the Blaugrana on the radar, who at the time were said to be ready to shell out a sum close to 100 million euros. The budget was then passed on to Antoine Griezmann, who calls this transfer a misstep in his glorious career.

Then we arrive at the summer and the transfer session that has just ended. Barcelona lost Robert Lewandowski and threw themselves with all their might into Julian Alvarez, Toro's compatriot, playing for Atlético Madrid (the very club that Lauti had been very close to before choosing Inter). Amid controversies on social media and on the pitch, however, "La Arana" did not get the green light to leave and here is the turning point. Barcelona's target once again became Lautaro Martínez. The rumors were insistent, but Toro, now grown up and having become captain and leader for years, chose to stay and repel those assaults which however retained a certain charm
At the "Grand Gala of football" ceremony the Nerazzurri captain spoke about the Barcelona issue, also revealing some details: "It is certainly a great pleasure, a great honor and an enormous satisfaction because one always works to improve, to move forward, to become better. When these offers or these calls from these great clubs arrive they are always welcome. It is a very important thing. Now I am in a city that has brought me in in an incredible way since day one. I have a restaurant, my children go to school. I will always be here. Then the you never know. As long as they want me, they will be here at Inter. Surely, as I always say, it happens in all jobs. When you are no longer needed, in the end they send you away. I am here with my soul as from day one. But in the end I wanted to stay here together with my teammates, with these fans who have always been wonderful to me."
With these words Lautaro wanted to somehow put aside the possibility of a transfer, while leaving a window open for who knows what future. The Bull loves Inter and Milan, has a stable life and has activities in the Lombard capital. Unlike some of his former colleagues, he understood the significant phrase: "if you feel good in a place, stay there".
