The white smoke, or rather Blancos, has already arrived in recent weeks: Mourinho has said yes to Real Madrid and is ready to return to the Blanco bench to try to bring the club back to the top after a season full of difficulties. Agreement reached for a two-year deal with an option for a third year and a salary of 10 million euros per season. Everything was done, therefore, with the Portuguese coach having already put forward and written down his requests in terms of the transfer market. Yet, at the moment, everything remains frozen.
Mourinho-Real perché è tutto fermo
The reason is closely linked to the corporate elections that will be held next June, when Florentino Perez and Enrique Riquelme will compete for the presidency. For the first time in twenty years, in fact, the Madrid number one will have a real challenger. An absolute novelty if we consider that since 2009 Florentino has governed without rivals. A scenario that is inevitably also slowing down the official status of Mourinho bis.
Riquelme sfida Florentino

Everything depends on the outcome of the vote because, in the event of a resounding victory for Riquelme, completely different scenarios would open up. The young entrepreneur, in fact, would have different ideas for the bench and would be working on an alternative technical project to the one set by the current management.
The thirty-seven year old is ready to give the current president a hard time. He has already presented his electoral campaign under the slogan "Heritage and future", a profoundly different vision compared to that of Florentino, towards whom he has spared no criticism, judging the management to be negative in various aspects, starting from the investment for the renovation of the Bernabeu, considered not to live up to expectations.
Futuro sospeso
And this is precisely the issue that keeps the return of the Special One on stand-by. The agreement with Mourinho is there, the mutual will as well, but no signature will be formalized before the verdict at the polls. Florentino considers the Portuguese the right man to immediately relaunch the technical project, but a possible corporate reversal would call everything into question. For this reason, until June 7, the future of the Real bench will remain suspended between José's return and the unknown known as Riquelme.
