La parola fine all'incubo vero e proprio arrivata nelle ore pomeridiane di venerdì 31 luglio, chiude una delle vicende più delicate del recente calcio inglese. Mykhailo Mudryk è di nuovo un giocatore a tutti gli effetti: l'esterno ucraino del Chelsea ha ottenuto il via libera definitivo per tornare a calcare i campi da gioco con effetto immediato, mettendosi alle spalle la squalifica di quattro anni che gli era stata inflitta dalla Football Association. Il caso era esploso a seguito di un controllo antidoping effettuato nell'autunno del 2024, durante un raduno con la propria nazionale, nel quale erano emerse tracce di meldonium. I recenti aggiornamenti sugli standard scientifici e sulle soglie di rilevazione delle sostanze hanno infatti dimostrato che quella minima concentrazione rilevata nel campione dell'attaccante oggi non verrebbe nemmeno classificata come violazione. Un dettaglio decisivo, che ha condotto a una risoluzione concordata tra il legale del classe 2001, la FA e la WADA: Mudryk ha preso atto formalmente della violazione formale ma ha accettato una sanzione ridotta, sovrapponibile al periodo di sospensione cautelare già scontato in questi mesi.

Anche in casa Chelsea si respira grande sollievo. Il club di Stamford Bridge, che nel gennaio 2023 aveva investito cifre capogiro per strapparlo allo Shakhtar Donetsk vincolandolo fino al 2031, non ha mai fatto mancare il proprio supporto al ragazzo durante i mesi di isolamento e allenamenti privati. In una nota ufficiale, la società londinese si è detta felice per la conclusione della vicenda, sottolineando come l'adeguamento dei criteri scientifici abbia reso giustizia alla condotta del giocatore e consentito di riaprire una pagina che sembrava compromessa.

"It was the darkest moment of my professional life" the winger said on his social media channels. "I have never knowingly or intentionally taken any prohibited substance. My commitment to respecting the rules and representing my club and my country with integrity has never wavered. Now I just want to get my career back in hand and repay the trust of those who have been close to me."
