Le ultime ore di calciomercato sono sempre le più frenetiche, i club cercano di concludere gli ultimi affari strappando condizioni migliori e cercando le accelerate decisive per le occasioni last minute. Nelle ultime ore, al centro dell'attenzione è finito Manu Konè, centrocampista della Roma finito nel mirino del Chelsea. Il club inglese avrebbe offerto circa 60 milioni di euro per portare il giocatore a Londra, ma ogni possibile trattativa è stata stoppata sul nascere dall'allenatore dei giallorossi, che dopo il match in casa del Lecce ha dichiarato il francese incedibile: “Konè non andrà da nessuna parte”. Nella trattativa con il Chelsea sarebbe potuto rientrare anche Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, esterno offensivo classe 2004. La fumata nera nell'operazione per il francese ha però bloccato i discorsi legati all'ex Borussia Dortmund. La Roma ha bisogno di trovare un attaccante esterno, e al momento Gittens sarebbe in cima alla lista dei preferiti.
L'intreccio Konè-Gittens
Il Chelsea è interessato a Konè, alla Roma piace Gittens: le strade dei due club sembravano destinate ad incrociarsi. I Blues e Xabi Alonso avevano identificato in Konè il sostituto ideale di Enzo Fernandez, rimasto fuori dai convocati nelle prime partite stagionali per via del suo imminente passaggio al Manchester City. Gli inglesi si sarebbero spinti ad offrire Gittens (in prestito) più 60 milioni di euro come contropartita al giocatore francese, ma Gasperini si è fermamente opposto all'affare, minacciando addirittura le dimissioni in caso di uscita del giocatore dalla Roma. A fronte della dichiarata incedibilità di Konè, però, resta l'interesse del club capitolino per l'esterno offensivo del Chelsea. La trattativa per Gittens resta in piedi, gli sviluppi decisivi sulla vicenda sono attesi a breve. Il giocatore classe 2004 è particolarmente gradito a Gasperini per inforzare il reparto offensivo e soprattutto la fascia sinistra. Le ultime ore di mercato saranno decisive per capire se alla Roma riuscirà l'affondo in extremis.

La Roma è reduce da un'ottima stagione sotto la guida di Gasperini, che è riuscito a centrare la qualificazione per la Champions League. La dirigenza capitolina non vuole ripetere lo stesso errore, e ha affidato a Gasperini un grande peso nelle decisioni di mercato. Proprio l'allenatore ha spento sul nascere la possibilità di una cessione di Manu Konè: la sua uscita sembrava ad un passo, la stampa inglese già riportava di un incontro tra il Chelsea e gli agenti del giocatore. Ma poi tutto è stato bloccato: vince la linea Gasperini, e i tifosi esultano.
Konè vestirà la maglia della Roma anche per questa stagione, Gasperini ha chiuso fermamente le porte ad una sua possibile uscita dalla capitale, direzione Chelsea. Rifiutati 60 milioni di euro più il prestito con diritto di riscatto di Gittens, esterno offensivo che però piace molto al tecnico giallorosso. E in queste ultime, frenetiche ore di mercato, il ds Tony D'Amico continua ad avere contatti diretti con i dirigenti del club inglese per cercare di trovare la quadra economica dell'operazione Gittens, per provare a regalare a Gasperini anche questo ultimo colpo, senza privarlo di un giocatore dichiarato incedibile come Konè.
