Il Porto ha raggiunto l'intesa con il Milan per l’acquisizione di Santiago Gimenez. Il club portoghese ha intascato velocemente il si della punta rossonera, che vuole provare a riscattarsi dopo la fallimentare esperienza a Milano. L’allenatore del Porto, Francesco Farioli, ha svolto un ruolo chiave nella negoziazione lato giocatore, con diverse chiamate per convincerlo a sposare il suo progetto tecnico. Infatti, il mister ex Ajax aveva già avuto modo di affrontare il messicano nel campionato olandese, durante il quale era rimasto colpito dalle sue qualità.
Dopo settimane di trattative fra le due società i dirigenti rossoneri si sono convinti anche per la possibilità di liberarsi definitivamente di un giocatore ritenuto fuori dai piani di Amorim. La formula del trasferimento è un prestito gratuito con diritto di riscatto che si può trasformare in obbligo al verificarsi di determinati obiettivi. Affare complessivo da 18 milioni di euro. Ora mancano solo gli ultimi dettagli da limare e poi Gimenez volerà in direzione Oporto.
Perché lasciare Milano ora?
Il Bebote saluta così la famiglia rossonera. Tra rimpianti e amarezza, l’attaccante messicano non è riuscito a lasciare il segno come ci si aspettava. Con l’arrivo di Amorim e l’esonero di Allegri, si prospettavano nuove soluzioni e schemi di gioco, che fossero adatti anche a Gimenez. Dopo il ritiro e buona parte di precampionato, il tecnico portoghese è stato, però, chiaro sulla situazione degli attaccanti: l’acquisto di Goncalo Ramos e la sua decisione di tenere Francesco Camarda chiudono automaticamente le porte a una terza punta, ovvero il Bebote.
Al Porto, invece, Santiago Gimenez trova la situazione opposta. I dragoes sono, infatti, alla ricerca di un sostituto di Samu Aghehowa, che l’anno scorso ha subito un grave infortunio al ginocchio e non è ancora pronto a rientrare in campo. Al do Dragao l’attaccante messicano potrebbe ritrovare la costanza e la serenità necessarie per riprendere in mano la carriera e cambiare il suo destino, dopo una parentesi negativa e condizionata da fin troppe pressioni che non è stato in grado di farsi scivolare addosso.
Premesse non mantenute
Dopo essere sbarcato a Milano a gennaio 2025 per una cifra intorno ai 37 milioni di euro, le aspettative nei confronti di Gimenez erano molto alte. Il Milan sembrava aver finalmente trovato l’attaccante tanto cercato negli ultimi anni. Un giocatore capace di trovare la porta con estrema facilità e che in una stagione aveva siglato 23 gol e 6 assist. La realtà, però, ha raccontato tutt’altro.
In Serie A solo 5 gol in un anno e mezzo, di cui nessuno nella scorsa stagione. Tra il messicano e Max Allegri non è mai scoppiato l’amore e i numeri ne sono la testimonianza: solo 11 presenze da titolare e una media di neanche un tiro in porta a partita, circa 0.6. La sua esperienza a Milanello è stata a tratti nulla, condizionata anche dall’operazione alla caviglia che l’ha tenuto fuori diversi mesi, e adesso ripartire sembra sempre più difficile. Il Porto, però, potrebbe rappresentare la piazza giusta dove tornare a giocare senza troppi giudizi.

Now there are only the last details to be ironed out and then Gimenez will fly towards Porto.
Perché lasciare Milano ora?
This is how Bebote bids farewell to the Rossoneri family. Between regrets and bitterness, the Mexican striker failed to leave his mark as expected. With the arrival of Amorim and the dismissal of Allegri, new solutions and game plans were on the horizon, which were also suitable for Gimenez. After the retreat and a good part of the pre-season, the Portuguese coach was, however, clear on the situation of the attackers: the purchase of Goncalo Ramos and his decision to keep Francesco Camarda automatically close the doors to a third striker, namely Bebote.
At Porto, however, Santiago Gimenez finds the opposite situation. The dragoes are, in fact, looking for a replacement for Samu Aghehowa, who suffered a serious knee injury last year and is not yet ready to return to the pitch. At do Dragao the Mexican striker could find the consistency and serenity necessary to take back his career and change his destiny, after a negative parenthesis conditioned by too much pressure that he was unable to let slide.
Premesse non mantenute
After landing in Milan in January 2025 for a figure around 37 million euros, expectations for Gimenez were very high. Milan seemed to have finally found the striker they had been looking for in recent years. A player capable of finding the net with extreme ease and who had scored 23 goals and 6 assists in one season. The reality, however, told something completely different.
In Serie A only 5 goals in a year and a half, none of which last season. Love never broke out between the Mexican and Max Allegri and the numbers are proof of this: only 11 appearances as a starter and an average of not even one shot on goal per game, around 0.6. His experience at Milanello was at times nothing, also affected by the ankle operation that kept him out for several months, and now starting again seems increasingly difficult. Porto, however, could represent the right place to return to playing without too many judgements.
