Sono state settimane impegnative per i dirigenti giallorossi che, dopo essere riusciti a prendere Castro dal Bologna, si sono concentrati in difesa. Il profilo individuato rispondeva al nome di Konstantinos Koulierakis, ventiduenne del Wolfsburg, che dopo la retrocessione dalla Bundesliga ha deciso di rimanere nei campionati che contano. Il nazionale greco ha spinto molto appena saputo l’interesse della Roma, attratto dalla possibilità di giocare in Champions League. I tedeschi d’altronde non potevano trattenere un giocatore del suo calibro in Zweite Bundesliga e quindi non hanno potuto alzare troppo le pretese. Sono bastati 15 milioni di euro per far sì che il calciatore vestisse la maglia giallorossa. Ottimo rinforzo per Gasperini che ora potrà contare su un giovane già affermato.
Un giocatore all’avanguardia al servizio della Roma
Il classe 2003 è un vero e proprio interprete del calcio moderno. Difensore mancino, è in grado di giocare da braccetto in una difesa a tre ma anche come centrale. Nonostante i 188 centimetri il giocatore greco è molto rapido a ripartire palla al piede, sa smistare in maniera precisa il pallone ed è abile nei contrasti, sopratutto quando si tratta di anticipare l’avversario. Ha anche un ottimo senso del gol, come dimostrano le 4 reti messe a segno nell’ultima stagione. Cresciuto nel Paok, ha conquistato subito tutti guadagnandosi la chiamata in nazionale nel 2022. La sua leadership è stata decisiva anche nella vittoria del campionato greco nel 2024. L’anno dopo é stato acquistato dal Wolfsburg, dove diventa subito un titolare inamovibile. Al momento ha giocato 22 presenze con la nazionale greca, di cui è già un pilastro nonostante l’età.

Dopo il rinnovo di Mancini, l’acquisto di Koulierakis dimostra come per l’ex allenatore dell’Atalanta il reparto difensivo era da puntellare. Con Ndicka, o Ghilardi in alternativa, braccetto a destra e Mancini al centro della difesa, il terzo centrale sarà proprio Koulierakis, che sotto l’ala protettrice di Hermoso può solo che migliorare. Ora rimane da sistemare la fascia destra dopo il mancato rinnovo di Celik andato alla Juve, ma i giallorossi hanno individuato due profili, da cui uscirà il nuovo esterno a tutta fascia: Fresneda e Read. Gasperini e D’Amico stanno lavorando a stretto contatto per rendere la Roma una squadra pronta in tempo per l’inizio del campionato in un’annata storica che sancisce il ritorno in Champions League dopo 7 anni.
