The Premier League close day 11 with the London derby between Tottenham and Chelsea, two teams aiming for the top of the table.
The match, play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, was full of emotion, goals and controversy, with Chelsea winning 4-1 thanks to a super performance by Jackson, who scored a hat-trick.
Tottenham had started well, finding the lead in the 18th minute through Kulusevski, assisted by Son. Spurs seemed to be in control of the game, but in the 32nd minute they were reduced to ten men when Romero was sent off for a second yellow for a foul on Palmer.
Chelsea took advantage of this and equalised in the 40th minute with Palmer himself, who finalised a beautiful choral action by the Blues.
Tottenham horror in the second half and City new leader in Premier League
In the second half, Pochettino’s men increase the tempo and put Tottenham under pressure until the 68th minute, when Jackson made it 2-1 with a header from James’ cross. Tottenham try to react, but in the 76th minute they suffer another blow when Udogie take a second red card for a disjoint intervention on Mount.
Chelsea then had an easy time of it and went ahead with two more goals from Jackson, in the 79th and 88th minutes, both on assists from Mount.
The young English striker thus reached 10 league goals, becoming the Premier League’s top scorer. Chelsea thus gained three important points, and momentary tenth place, making City happy as well, now first in solitary with 27 points.
Tottenham, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat of the season, dropping to second place with 26 points. The derby confirmed the strength of Chelsea, who showed that they have a large and quality squad, and the fragility of Tottenham, who paid the price for expulsions and the poor vein of their strikers. The Premier League promises to be more and more exciting.
