Inter take advantage of Juventus’ and Milan’s missteps in serie A, beating Fiorentina 1-0 to move into first place with one point and one game to spare. Lazio and Napoli drew 0-0 in a direct clash for the Champions zone, while Monza regained their smiles with a 1-0 win over Sassuolo. Finally, Verona and Frosinone drew 1-1 in a salvation challenge.
Inter, victory of character and head in serie A
Inter prove to be a solid and determine team, winning at the Franchi against a Fiorentina side that did not give up easily. The decisive goal came in the 14th minute with a header from Lautaro Martinez, who took advantage of a cross from Asslani.
That’s 19 league goals for the Argentine. Inter controlled the result, also thanks to Sommer’s saves, who denied Bonaventura’s goal in the first half and parried a penalty for Nico Gonzalez in the second half, after causing a foul on Nzola. Inter thus claimed their seventh consecutive victory and looked in the best possible shape ahead of next Sunday’s Italian derby with Juventus.
Lazio and Napoli, a point each and many regrets
Lazio and Napoli face each other at the Olimpico in a match that could have been worth a lot for the classification, but ended in a blank draw.
The two teams showed a cautious attitude, especially in the first half, in which the goal occasions were few and not too dangerous. In the second half, the pace picks up and there are some chances on both sides, but neither side manages to unlock the result. Napoli came close to taking the lead, while Lazio claimed a penalty for contact in the box.
The draw did not satisfy either team, who remain paired in fourth place with 34 and 32 points, respectively.
Monza, Colpani gives Palladino a breather in Serie A
Monza broke the negative series of two consecutive defeats, beating Sassuolo 1-0 and gaining three precious points for the classification. The protagonist of the match was Colpani, who scored the winning goal in the 30th minute with a volley from inside the area.
Monza managed the advantage with order and personality, not allowing Sassuolo many chances to draw. The neroverdi suffered the absence of Berardi, their best player, and suffered their second defeat in a row, which makes them slip to the penultimate place with 18 points, only one point behind the third-last Cagliari. Sassuolo is in crisis and coach Dionisi is increasingly in the balance.
Verona and Frosinone, a point that is not enough for anyone
The salvation clash between Verona and Frosinone ended in a 1-1 draw, which did not change the classification situation much. Verona had two penalties in their favour, but only took advantage of one. The first miss by Duda in the 37th minute, who shot weakly and allowed Bardi to parry.
The second convert by Suslov in the dying minutes of the first half, after a foul by Bourabia on Zaccagni. Frosinone reacted in the second half and found the equaliser in the 58th minute with a header from Kaio Jorge, who took advantage of a corner kick taken by Ciano.
Verona tried to win the match, but could not find the overtaking goal. Frosinone defended the point with grit and came close to scoring with a shot by Novakovic that hit the post. The draw leaves the two teams in the relegation zone, with Frosinone on 23 points and Verona on 18.
