The 25th day of Serie A came to a close with four matches that provided excitement and goals. Bologna won in a comeback in Rome against Lazio and kept pace with Atalanta for fourth place. Roma beat Frosinone and relaunched themselves after the defeat against Inter. Empoli and Fiorentina shared the stakes in a balanced and hard-fought Tuscan derby. Udinese and Cagliari did not go beyond 1-1 and remain in the salvation zone.
Monza surprises Milan
Milan loses the Lombardy derby against Monza and sees Inter at the top of the standings move away. The hosts went ahead with a penalty by Pessina and doubled with Mota in the first half.
The Diavolo reduces to ten men when Jovic send off and looked doomed, but they reacted with goals from Giroud and Pulisic1. In the final, however, Bondo and Colombo gave the success to Monza, who interrupted a series of five consecutive defeats. Milan remained third, two points from Juve and eleven from Inter.
Bologna the real surprise of Serie A
Bologna accomplished the feat and beat Lazio in Rome, overcoming the initial disadvantage and bringing home three precious points for the Champions’ dream. The match was spectacular and full of chances on both sides.
Lazio took the lead in the 18th minute through Isaksen, who took advantage of an Immobile assist and beat Skorupski with an angled shot. Bologna reacted and hit a post with the same Isaksen, then equalised in the 39th minute with El Azzouzi, who took advantage of a mistake by Provedel and scored from close range.
In the second half, Bologna increase the pace and find the winning goal in the 78th minute with Zirkzee, who get rid of Lazio’defender and beat Provedel with a low shot. Lazio tried to equalise, but could not break through Bologna’s defence, which held out until the triple whistle. Bologna climbed to 45 points, together with Atalanta, who had one game less. Lazio remained on 37 points, in sixth place.
Everything easy for Roma
Roma has no trouble getting rid of Frosinone and win their fourth victory in their last five matches, immediately raising their heads after the knockout against Inter and remaining -4 from fourth place.
The match at the Stirpe Stadium, which had been fairly even up to that point, was unblocked by Huijsen’s masterpiece: in the 38th minute he hit a torpedo into the crossbar after a solitary ride. It was Azmoun in the 71st minute and Paredes on a penalty kick in the 81st minute that sealed the victory.
De Rossi remained attached to the Champions League train, Di Francesco ran into his third loss in a row and now has only a three-point margin over the relegation zone.
Tuscan Serie A derby ends in a draw
Empoli and Fiorentina shared the stakes in a balanced and hard-fought Tuscan derby. The two teams faced each other openly and made themselves dangerous on several occasions. The first half ended 0-0, with saves from Dragowski and Terracciano denying the opposing attackers a goal.
In the second half, Empoli took the lead in the 59th minute with Niang. Fiorentina reacted and equalised in the 74th minute with Beltran, who was ready on a cross from Biraghi and scored a header.
In the final, Empoli came close to scoring the winning goal with Ricci, who hit the crossbar, but the result did not change. Empoli remains on 22 points, +2 on the salvation zone. Fiorentina remains at 38 points, in seventh place.
Cagliari does not go beyond a draw in Udine
Udinese and Cagliari do not go beyond 1:1 and remain in the salvation zone, but with some regrets for the wasted opportunities. The match was lively and was decided in the first minutes.
The friulani took the lead in the 14th minute with Zemura, with a shot on the turn. Cagliari equalised in the 44th minute with Gaetano. In the second half, the two teams looked for the winning goal, but failed to materialise their chances.
The final result was a draw that satisfied no one. Udinese rises to 23 points while Cagliari rises to 19 points, in the penultimate place, -1 from salvation.
