The 28th day of Serie A brought results that could have a significant impact on the fight for the Champions League and the battle for salvation.
Fiorentina and Roma did not take advantage of the slowdown of Bologna and Atalanta, stopping at 2-2 at the Franchi in a challenge full of twists and turns. In a first half dominated by pace and chances, Fiorentina unblocked the match through Ranieri in the 18th minute.
De Rossi revolutionised Roma tactically in the second half, finding the equaliser in the 58th minute through Aouar, but Mandragora put Fiorentina back in front after a collective sleep.
In the 80th minute Italiano’s side missed their fifth penalty in a row – this time with Biraghi – and from a possible double lead they conceded the equalising goal in the 95th minute from Llorente.
Juventus does not go beyond 2-2
Juventus and Atalanta produced an emotion-filled 2-2 draw at theAllianz Stadium. After a first half in which Juve tried to impose themselves without success, it was Koopmeiners who unblocked the result in the 35th minute with a clever free-kick.
The Old Lady’s reaction was not long in coming in the second half, with Cambiaso and Milik reversing the result within minutes. However, Koopmeiners again restored parity, leaving Juve in third place in the table, overtaken by Milan.
Milan is now second in Serie A
Milan, without Leao, secured a narrow victory againstEmpoli thanks to a goal from Pulisic. Despite a prolonged domination, the Rossoneri had to defend the result in the final stages against an Empoli side that came close to equalising. The performances of Kalulu, Tomori and Okafor offered comfort to Pioli, while Jovic failed to convince. With this victory, Milan moved up to second place given the draw between Juve and Atalanta.
D’Aversa loses his head
The tension was palpable at the Via del Mare where Lecce faced Verona in a direct clash for salvation.
The match, which ended 1-0 to the guests, was marked by the expulsion of Verona’s Henry, who left the field visibly altered.
The situation degenerated at the end of the match, with Lecce coach D’Aversa hitting Henry with a headbutt. As a result of this gesture, the Salento coach, despite his social apologies, could pay with his exoneration. Semplici could arrive in his place.
