Nonostante sia rimasto a guardare la prima sessione di prove libere di Barcellona, Andrea Kimi Antonelli è stato subito tra i più veloci nella seconda, chiusa al quinto posto. Un'ora in cui il 19enne pilota bolognese non ha pensato troppo al giro veloce, ma a preparare la sua Mercedes in vista di qualifiche e gara. "E' stata una giornata un po' impegnativa per me. C'era molto da recuperare dopo aver saltato le FP1; abbiamo faticato un po' con il surriscaldamento e a trovare il giusto bilanciamento della vettura, il che significa che c'era ancora del lavoro da fare durante la sessione. Detto questo, ci sono stati sicuramente degli aspetti positivi, soprattutto nei long run, dove il ritmo e il feeling con la vettura sono stati incoraggianti", ha detto.
E ancora: "Abbiamo raccolto molte informazioni preziose e ora si tratta di analizzare i dati durante la notte per capire dove possiamo migliorare. George è sembrato molto competitivo e anche le McLaren sembrano forti, quindi sappiamo che la competizione sarà dura. Tuttavia, sono fiducioso che possiamo fare un buon passo avanti per domani. Continueremo a lavorare sodo e cercheremo di ottenere il massimo dalla vettura quando conta di più, in qualifica".

Despite staying to watch the first free practice session in Barcelona, Andrea Kimi Antonelli was immediately among the fastest in the second, finishing in fifth place. An hour in which the 19-year-old driver from Bologna didn't think too much about the fastest lap, but about preparing his Mercedes for qualifying and the race. "It was a bit of a busy day for me. There was a lot of catching up to do after missing FP1; we struggled a bit with overheating and finding the right balance of the car, meaning there was still some work to do in the session. That said, there were definitely some positives, especially on the long runs, where the pace and feeling with the car was encouraging," he said.
And again: “We have gathered a lot of valuable information and now it's about analyzing the data overnight to understand where we can improve. George looked very competitive and the McLarens also look strong, so we know the competition will be tough. However, I'm confident we can make a good step forward for tomorrow. We will continue to work hard and try to get the most out of the car when it matters most, in qualifying.”
