Ligue 1 the last day was decisive: the verdicts

Ligue 1  closed with a Sunday evening of very high tension, a day to be experienced with the rankings which continued to update and define themselves minute by minute. The title had already been won early by Paris Saint-Germain, but there were many emotions on the last day between the Champions League race, the European brawl and the fight for survival.

Psg in ansia per Dembélé

Dembele pallone d’Oro

A night in which PSG was also the protagonist. Luis Enrique's team lost the derby against Paris FC, ending the season with a painless defeat for the league table but which raises alarm bells ahead of the Champions League final on May 30 against Arsenal. What is keeping the Parisian environment anxious is above all Dembélé's condition, forced to come off after just 27 minutes due to a muscle problem that will be evaluated in the next few days.

La corsa all’Europa, come è finita

Champions

Behind the French champions, the great protagonist was Lens. The Giallorossi closed an extraordinary season by overwhelming Lyon 4-0 and sealing second place, crowning a championship consistently played at the highest level. Until a few days before the end they  even cherished the dream of contending and taking the title away from PSG.

In addition to PSG and Lens, Lille will also go directly to the Champions League, third despite the home defeat against Auxerre, while Lyon will have to go through the preliminaries. A difficult qualification for OL, who took a big risk in the final but maintained fourth place thanks to the results of the other fields.

Europa e Conference League

The European race rewarded Marseille, who prevailed in the direct clash against Rennes by 3-1 and thus made the decisive overtaking and gained a pass for the Europa League.  For Rennes, qualification for the Conference League remains, while the big disappointment is Monaco, left out of all European competitions after a season of ups and downs. The crazy 5-4 defeat against Strasbourg is emblematic: ahead 4-1 halfway through the second half, the team from the principality made an incredible comeback.

La coda della classifica

At the bottom of the table, everything happened. Auxerre saved themselves by winning at Lille thanks to Lassine Sinayoko's brace, while Le Havre obtained their permanence by beating Lorient. Instead, Nice falls into the promotion-relegation play-off: the 0-0 draw at home against already relegated Metz was not enough and now the Rossoneri will have to play everything against Saint-Étienne.

Already condemned for weeks, Nantes and Metz bid farewell to Ligue 1. Nantes' end of the season was downright chaotic: the match against Toulouse was suspended after an invasion of the pitch by fans, furious at a disastrous season and the departure of coach Vahid Halilhodžić.

I verdetti finali della Ligue 1

  • French Champion: Paris Saint-Germain
  • Champions League: Paris Saint-Germain, Lens, Lille
  • Champions League Preliminaries: Lyon
  • Europa League: Marsigli
  • Conference League: Rennais
  • Salvation/promotion play-off: Nice – Saint-Étienne
  • Relegated: Nantes,  Metz

A season that therefore ends in the name of PSG's dominance, but also of the growth of Lens, the rebirth of Marseille and the sensational collapse of Nice, now called upon to defend on the pitch a stay in Ligue 1 that until a few months ago seemed obvious.
