The failure to qualify for the next Champions League could only influence the present and above all the future of Milan. Monday 25 May was the crucial day in deciding which direction to take in the Rossoneri's future. Gerry Cardinale's club has in fact opted for total revolution, one of the options on the table that we talked about a few weeks ago.
Milan, è rivoluzione totale: addio ad Allegri, Moncada, Furlani e Tare
In the afternoon of the day after the crushing defeat against Cagliari, the Rossoneri club relieved four fundamental elements of their duties: the coach Massimiliano Allegri, the sporting director Igli Tare, the technical director Geoffrey Moncada and the managing director Giorgio Furlani. This is the club's statement:
"After the disappointment of last season, the mandate defined by the owners for the Club was clear: to return to the Champions League and build the foundations to win and remain consistently at the top of Serie A. For most of the season we remained in the top two positions of the championship, with the concrete possibility of competing for the Scudetto. The end of the season, however, was well below the level shown up to that point and last night's disappointing defeat transformed this season into an unequivocal failure. It is now time for change and a profound reorganization of the Club's sporting area. With immediate effect, the career at AC Milan of CEO Giorgio Furlani, Sports Director Igli Tare, Head Coach Massimiliano Allegri and Technical Director Geoffrey Moncada comes to an end. Our thanks go to each of them for the work done and dedication shown during their time at the Club. Further announcements relating to the new appointments will be communicated as soon as they are defined, with the aim of having a structure ready for next season."
Milan, e ora?
As reported by the club's press release, the next few days will be crucial to defining the future. Many names have been mentioned, including that of Adriano Galliani as AD, who should not return to the Rossoneri and Antonio Conte as coach. However, the vision of RedBird and Gerry Cardinale is very different. In fact, we will be looking for a "Fabregas-style" coach, with football ideas aimed at the future: watch out for the name of Vincenzo Italiano, also suspected for the Napoli bench. The idea of Tony D'Amico, who concluded his career at Atalanta, remains alive in the role of sporting director.
