Il Ghana centra l'obiettivo minimo e vola ai sedicesimi di finale del Mondiale 2026. Le Black Stars hanno chiuso la fase a gironi con una vittoria, un pareggio e una sconfitta, un bottino sufficiente per rientrare tra le migliori terze classificate e conquistare un posto nel tabellone a eliminazione diretta.
Una qualificazione arrivata senza dominare, ma costruita con carattere e qualità offensiva, due elementi che hanno permesso alla nazionale africana di proseguire il proprio cammino nel torneo. Adesso il livello si alza: sabato 4 luglio alle ore 01:30 italiane il Ghana affronterà la Colombia in una sfida in cui ci si gioca il passaggio agli ottavi di finale.
Il ritorno nella fase a eliminazione diretta
Quella del 2026 è la quinta partecipazione del Ghana a una Coppa del Mondo. Dopo le eliminazioni nella fase a gironi in Brasile 2014 e Qatar 2022, le Black Stars sono finalmente riuscite a ritrovare la fase a eliminazione diretta, riportando entusiasmo attorno a una delle nazionali più prestigiose del continente africano.
L'obiettivo è provare ad avvicinare il ricordo più bello della propria storia mondiale: Sudafrica 2010, quando il Ghana arrivò fino ai quarti di finale, sfiorando una storica semifinale prima della beffa: eliminazione ai rigori contro l'Uruguay.
La prima apparizione in una Coppa del mondo risale invece a Germania 2006, quando il Ghana raggiunse gli ottavi di finale al debutto assoluto.
Come è arrivata la qualificazione
Le Black Stars hanno conquistato il pass per il Mondiale vincendo il Gruppo I delle qualificazioni africane. Otto vittorie, un solo ko in dieci partite e primo posto conquistato davanti al sorprendente Madagascar.
La qualificazione è stata blindata soltanto nell'ultima giornata grazie alla vittoria sulle Comore, decisa da una rete di Kudus, mentre uno dei grandi protagonisti dell'intero percorso è stato Ayew, autore di sette gol.
A qualificazione già conquistata, però, la federazione ha deciso di cambiare guida tecnica. Dopo una serie di risultati negativi, Otto Addo è stato sollevato dall'incarico e, il 13 aprile 2026, a soli 72 giorni dall'inizio del Mondiale, è stato nominato commissario tecnico Carlos Queiroz.
Per il tecnico portoghese il tempo a disposizione è stato inevitabilmente ridotto. Più che rivoluzionare la squadra, Queiroz ha cercato di trasmettere la propria enorme esperienza internazionale, quella del 2026 è la sua quinta Coppa del Mondo da allenatore dopo le esperienze con Portogallo e Iran, lavorando soprattutto sull'organizzazione tattica e sulla fase difensiva. La sua idea di gioco punta a un gruppo compatto, pronto a colpire in contropiede sfruttando la qualità di Kudus e la velocità di Semenyo e Williams. Un progetto ancora in fase di costruzione, ma che ha già permesso alle Black Stars di raggiungere il primo obiettivo: il ritorno alla fase a eliminazione diretta del Mondiale dopo sedici anni.
Top, flop e sorpresa delle Black Stars
La principale forza della nazionale ghanese è senza dubbio il reparto offensivo, probabilmente uno dei più talentuosi tra le squadre africane presenti al Mondiale.

Tra i top spicca inevitabilmente Kudus, leader tecnico della squadra e uomo di maggiore qualità. Il fantasista del Tottenham ha confermato il proprio talento anche nella fase a gironi, risultando il giocatore più creativo e imprevedibile delle Black Stars.
Ottimo anche il rendimento di Antoine Semenyo, capace di mettere costantemente in difficoltà le difese avversarie grazie alla sua velocità e alla capacità di attaccare gli spazi, mentre Iñaki Williams continua a rappresentare un punto di riferimento fondamentale per esperienza, leadership e lavoro al servizio della squadra.
SORPRESA
La vera sorpresa è rappresentata dal giovane Caleb Yirenkyi. Il centrocampista ha mostrato personalità e maturità nonostante la giovane età, ritagliandosi un ruolo sempre più importante nello scacchiere tattico di Queiroz e confermandosi come uno dei prospetti più interessanti della rosa.
FLOP
Tra i flop, invece, c'è inevitabilmente la fase difensiva. Il Ghana ha alternato ottime prestazioni a momenti di evidente disattenzione, confermando quella fragilità già emersa durante il percorso di qualificazione. Un aspetto che rischia di pesare particolarmente contro una Colombia dotata di grande qualità offensiva.
Adesso la sfida con la Colombia
Superata la fase a gironi, le Black Stars sfideranno la Colombia in un match che si preannuncia estremamente equilibrato.
Per Carlos Queiroz sarà fondamentale trovare il giusto bilanciamento tra l'enorme talento offensivo della propria squadra e una maggiore solidità difensiva. Se Kudus, Semenyo e Iñaki Williams riusciranno ad accendersi, il Ghana avrà le armi per mettere in difficoltà anche una delle selezioni più complete del Mondiale.

2026 is Ghana's fifth participation in a World Cup. After group stage eliminations in Brazil 2014 and Qatar 2022, the Black Stars have finally managed to return to the knockout stage, bringing back excitement around one of the most prestigious national teams on the African continent.
The goal is to try to recall the best memory of their world history: South Africa 2010, when Ghana reached the quarter-finals, coming close to a historic semi-final before the insult: elimination on penalties against Uruguay.
The first appearance in a World Cup dates back to Germany 2006, when Ghana reached the round of 16 on their debut.
Come è arrivata la qualificazione
The Black Stars secured their place in the World Cup by winning Group I of the African qualifiers. Eight victories, only one knockout in ten matches and first place achieved ahead of the surprising Madagascar.
Qualification was secured only on the last day thanks to the victory over the Comoros, decided by a goal from Kudus, while one of the great protagonists of the entire journey was Ayew, scorer of seven goals.
However, with qualification already achieved, the federation decided to change technical leadership. After a series of poor results, Otto Addo was relieved of his duties and, on 13 April 2026, just 72 days before the start of the World Cup, Carlos Queiroz was appointed technical commissioner.
For the Portuguese coach, the time available was inevitably reduced. More than revolutionizing the team, Queiroz tried to pass on his enormous international experience - 2026 is his fifth World Cup as a coach after his experiences with Portugal and Iran - working above all on tactical organization and the defensive phase. Among the flops, however, there is inevitably the defensive phase. Ghana alternated excellent performances with moments of evident inattention, confirming the fragility that had already emerged during the qualifying process. An aspect that risks weighing particularly heavily against a Colombia team with great offensive quality.
