TOP - LUIS DIAZ
Neanche a dirlo, è lui il miglior giocatore della Colombia in questo avvio di Mondiale. L'uomo copertina, quello che insieme a James Rodriguez rappresenta più degli altri il simbolo della Selecciòn, non ha deluso le aspettative, diventando la base su cui il CT Lorenzo costruisce il suo gioco. Ogni volta che riceve palla largo a sinistra succede qualcosa: un dribbling fulmineo, un passaggio filtrante, un tiro pericoloso. Le difese avversarie lo sanno e sono costrette ad andare in raddoppio, aprendo però il fianco ai letali inserimenti dei Cafeteros: una strategia che finora ha dato i suoi frutti.
FLOP - LUIS SUAREZ
Da un attaccante che si presentava con 38 reti stagionali come bigliettino da visita ci si sarebbe aspettato un contributo di ben altra fattura alla manovra offensiva della Tricolor. Certo, le difese avversarie spesso hanno intasato le vie centrali, dirottando la manovra dei Cafeteros sulle fasce, ma il dato che recita “zero tiri in porta” è un campanello dall'allarme per l'attacco di Nestor Lorenzo. Non solo: in generale Suarez è risultato isolato e fuori dal gioco, poco utile alla causa colombiana. Alle sue spalle Cucho Hernandez e Jhon Cordoba scalpitano: entrambi, quando subentrati, sono apparsi più intraprendenti e coinvolti nella manovra e l'ex Granada è stato preferito nella sfida contro il Portogallo.
SORPRESA - DANIEL MUÑOZ
L'uomo dei gol decisivi, spesso, è quello che non ti aspetti. Mentre Lucho Diaz sgasa sulla sinistra, James inventa sulla trequarti, Luis Suarez latita, l'eroe della fase a gironi della Colombia diventa Daniel Muñoz. L'interpretazione moderna del ruolo di terzino destro, solido in fase difensiva, ma letale nell'occupare gli spazi in avanti e nel concludere l'azione, si interseca alla perfezione con il gioco proposto dal CT Lorenzo. Il risultato sono state due reti, di cui quella contro il Congo decisiva, per il terzino in forza al Crystal Palace, un'autentica spina nel fianco delle difese avversarie.

Appena sette partecipazioni alla Coppa del Mondo per la Colombia, che non è mai riuscita ad andare oltre ai quarti di finale. Il successo, propiziato da una rete del nerazzurro Ivan Cordoba, aprì però un periodo di profonda crisi, coinciso con la mancata qualificazione a tre edizioni consecutive dei Mondiali. Il ritorno sul massimo palcoscenico internazionale avvenne durante Brasile 2014, e fu col botto: primo posto nel girone, successo agli ottavi contro l'Uruguay e primo storico approdo ai quarti, guidati dalla stella James Rodriguez.
