Dopo il pass Mondiale (per gli italiani doloroso) staccato nello spareggio contro gli azzurri, in molti si sono chiesti quale sarebbe stato il cammino della Bosnia nella competizione. Il risultato, per ora, dice fase a gironi superata, e un sogno che continua. L'ostacolo, adesso, per Edin Dzeko e compagni si chiama Stati Uniti, avversari da battere nei sedicesimi di finale del torneo. Il match, previsto per le 02:00 (ora italiana) del prossimo 2 luglio, si annuncia incandescente, in una San Francisco Bay Area Stadium che vedrà gli USA giocare “in casa”. La Bosnia, però, ha già dimostrato di non tremare di certo di fronte a questa sensazione e ha già preso familiarità con simili situazioni, dopo aver affrontato il Canada a Toronto nella fase a gruppi del torneo.
Il gruppo B
La Bosnia ha chiuso il Gruppo B a 4 punti, al terzo posto dietro Svizzera e Canada e davanti al Qatar. Nel tre match della fase a gironi, ha conquistato una vittoria, un pareggio e una sconfitta. Contro il Canada, la gara è terminata 1 a 1 grazie alla rete di Jovo Lukic, a cui ha risposto Cyle Larin per il Canada. Pesante Ko, invece, contro la Svizzera: 4 a 1, con reti di Manzambi (doppietta), vargas e Xhaka, e Mahmic per l'unica rete bosniaca. La vittoria per 3 a 1 contro il Qatar è stata decisiva per il passaggio del turno: Alajbegovic, Abunata e Mahmic regalano alla Bosnia la vittoria, e il ripescaggio ai sedicesimi come una delle migliori terze del torneo.
I top e i flop della Bosnia
In queste sfide si è messa in mostra soprattutto la potenzialità dell'attacco bosniaco e il sorprendente centrocampo. Alajbegovic è un talento cristallino che ha già attirato le attenzioni di mezza Europa, Dzeko è lontano dai suoi tempi migliori e non ha ancora dato il suo contributo in zona gol, ma si è rivelato invece importante dal punto di vista dell'esperienza. Da rivedere, invece, la tenuta della difesa e la fase di copertura che ha spesso lasciato a desiderare. Contro gli Stati Uniti, sarà proprio qui a servire uno step in più.

La Bosnia ai Mondiali
La nazionale bosniaca conta due sole partecipazioni al Mondiale (la selezione è nata nel 1992 dopo la dissoluzione della Jugoslavia). Il debutto fu in Brasile nel 2014, e si concluse proprio con la fase a Gironi. Arrivò, però, la prima storia rete (Ibisevic segnò nella sconfitta per 2 a 1 contro l'Argentina) e la prima storica vittoria della nazionale (Bosnia - Iran 3-1). Il Mondiale 2026, dunque, rappresenta ad oggi già un risultato storico, un miglior piazzamento che, certamente, vorranno però spostare il più in là possibile.

In these matches, the potential of the Bosnian attack and the surprising midfield were shown above all. Alajbegovic is a crystalline talent who has already attracted the attention of half of Europe, Dzeko is far from his best times and has not yet made his contribution in front of goal, but has instead proved to be important from the point of view of experience. However, the stability of the defense and the coverage phase which often left something to be desired need to be reviewed. Against the United States, he will be right here to serve an extra step.

La Bosnia ai Mondiali
The Bosnian national team has only participated in the World Cup twice (the selection was created in 1992 after the dissolution of Yugoslavia).
