Bundesliga: here are the verdicts on the Champions League and salvation

The last day of the 2025/2026 Bundesliga is archived. It was a spectacular weekend with 9 races all at the same time which defined the Champions League and salvation race. There was only one pass left for the top European competition and Stuttgart snatched it, for which a draw against Eintracht Frankfurt was enough.

Bitter ending for St. Pauli and Heidenheim relegated to Bundesliga 2, unlike Wolfsburg who will be able to take advantage of another chance called playout, with the aim of maintaining the category.

Stoccarda e Hoffenheim, la volata Champions si conclude qui

Champions League
Champions League

Both had created an emotional battle in fourth place made up of overtaking and counter-overtaking, where Stuttgart emerged triumphant, beating Hoffenheim by just one point. Despite the 1-1 draw in Frankfurt, Hoeneß's men qualified for the Champions League as their blue and white rivals suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Borussia M'Gladbach. For Hoffenheim fifth expected next season, the delicate path of the Europa League: there will certainly be a desire for revenge, after the elimination suffered in the League Phase of 2024/2025.

Il punto sulle qualificazioni

Not only Hoffenheim, in fact Bayer Leverkusen has also won the pass to play in the Europa League: an objective that is nevertheless important and not to be taken for granted, following the terrible start under Ten Hag management which was at least straightened out by Mr. Hjulmand.

This edition of UEL has a German tone, considering Freiburg as finalists against Aston Villa. If the Bianconeri (certain of a place in the Conference preliminaries) were to beat the English next Wednesday, they would qualify directly for the Champions League, leaving the Conference slot empty. Regarding this last competition, UEFA has established the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig as the venue for the final on May 27th.

Festa Bayern

Allianz Arena dressed up for the awards ceremony against German champions Bayern Munich. The Bavarians dominated the tournament and ended with 89 points, 16 more than second-placed Borussia Dortmund. The circle closed perfectly, thanks to a resounding 5-1 over Cologne: Tom Bischof, Nicolas Jackson and a hat-trick from top scorer Harry Kane who reached 36 goals. The Federation then awarded Michael Olise the award for best player in the Bundesliga, author of 15 goals and 20 assists.

Joy but also emotion, for those like Leon Goretzka who wrote history in Bavaria and will now leave the club, in search of new adventures (Milan are working to try to bring him to Serie A).

Incubo retrocessione e speranza Wolfsburg

In perhaps the hottest match of the year between St. Pauli and Wolfsburg with the playouts at stake, the home team couldn't handle the pressure, losing 1-3 and effectively saying goodbye to the top German championship after 2 years. Same fate for Heidenheim who, despite the great comeback in recent weeks, failed to obtain the points necessary for survival: the defeat against Mainz was fatal. FCH is ready to embrace the Zweite again in 2023. Wolfsburg is instead expected from the survival play-off, to be played with Paderborn 07 who finished third in Bundesliga 2.
