Samir Handanovic ha comunicato, un po’ a sorpresa, il suo addio all’Inter dopo ben 14 anni tra campo, scouting e panchina delle squadre giovanili. “L’Inter è stata molto più di una squadra: è stata una casa, un luogo di crescita, di sfide, di emozioni e di persone che hanno lasciato un segno nel mio cammino” ha dichiarato. L'ex portiere era alla guida della squadra Under 17, ma ha comunicato che i suoi rapporti con l’Inter si sono interrotti.
La carriera da giocatore
Samir Handanovic nasce in Slovenia nel 1984. Dopo alcuni anni giocati nel suo paese natale, arriva in Italia dove milita in diverse squadre (tra tutte Udinese e Lazio) ed approda all’Inter nel 2012, chiamato a raccogliere l’eredità del brasiliano Julio César.
Per 455 volte ha difeso la porta nerazzurra (è secondo tra i giocatori stranieri più presenti in serie A), e ha contribuito a conquistare un Campionato italiano, due Coppe Italia e due Supercoppe italiane.
È stato Capitano della squadra dal 2019 al 2023, punto fermo per tutti i suoi compagni, leader silenzioso in campo.
Soprannominato Batman per la sua grande agilità, la sua caratteristica di para-rigori gli permette di neutralizzarne ben 26 su 91 totali in Serie A.
Dello sloveno, Giuliano Sarti (portiere della Grande Inter di Helenio Herrera) ha detto: “Ci sono alcuni numeri uno che vanno di partita in partita, lui no: è costante, continuo, lineare e geometrico. Un ottimo portiere”.
Dopo molti anni giocati ad altissimo livello, la sua ultima stagione all’Inter (2022/2023) non è stata affatto semplice: a 38 anni parte ancora da titolare, ma la sua sicurezza tra i pali comincia a venire meno e nel giro di qualche mese viene scalzato dal nuovo arrivato Andrè Onana, giovane camerunense prelevato dall’Ajax.
Al termine dell’annata, lascia l’Inter alla scadenza naturale del contratto.
Ma il suo legame con l’Inter prosegue, seppur ricoprendo altri ruoli: inizialmente collabora come osservatore, e nel 2024 diventa il nuovo tecnico della formazione Under-17 del club nerazzurro.
Alla sua prima annata arriva fino ai quarti di finale, mentre nel 2025/26 raggiunge la semifinale in campionato (venendo eliminato dalla Juventus).

L'ex muro nerazzurro rivolge un affettuoso ringraziamento a tutti i ragazzi che ha avuto il privilegio di allenare “mi hanno dato tanto e con loro ho potuto mettere la passione per il calcio al primo posto”. Non manca un pensiero anche a tutti i collaboratori incontrati sulla sua strada, che hanno condiviso con lui anni importanti.
“Si chiude un capitolo importante ma porto con me ricordi, insegnamenti e gratitudine”.
Il futuro
A 42 anni, cosa riserverà il futuro all’ex Capitano dell’Inter? Molto probabilmente resterà legato al mondo del calcio, forse per lui potrebbero aprirsi le porte di un club professionistico sloveno.
“Sono pronto ad aprire una nuova pagina con entusiasmo, salutando il mondo nerazzurro con affetto, orgoglio e riconoscenza”.
Ora le strade dell’ex portiere e dell’Inter si sono separate, ma chissà che in un futuro non tornino ad incrociarsi e questo non sia solo un arrivederci….

Il futuro
At 42 years old, what does the future hold for the former Inter Captain? Most likely he will remain linked to the world of football, perhaps the doors of a Slovenian professional club could open for him.
