La situazione si è ribaltata e l'inchiesta arbitri sembra ora diretta verso l'archiviazione. Il quadro che sta emergendo dalle indagini, infatti, mostra non solo l'assenza di collusioni fra l'Inter e Gianluca Rocchi ai fini delle designazioni arbitrali, ma che erano gli stessi fischietti, talvolta, a esprimere dubbi e rimostranze quando chiamati a dirigere gare dei nerazzurri.
Indagini lacunose: nessun passo in avanti
Non starebbe perciò trovando conferme l'ipotesi sostenuta dagli inquirenti in base alla quale la scelta degli arbitri spesso sarebbe avvenuta in modo tale da esaudire i desideri dell'Inter. In particolare, nel mirino erano finite Inter-Verona e Bologna-Inter del campionato 2024/2025, il derby di Coppa Italia e Torino-Inter della Serie A appena conclusa. Tuttavia, le intercettazioni a singhiozzo e le numerose lacune non hanno fatto emergere elementi a sostegno della tesi avanzata, e dopo più di un anno di indagini l'unico soggetto indagato per concorso in frode sportiva resta Gianluca Rocchi. I dirigenti dell'Inter, quindi, continuano a essere estranei ai fatti, così come presunti individui che avrebbero agito a livello intermedio.
Anche gli argomenti non convincono. La designazione di arbitri “graditi” e “sgraditi” per favorire i nerazzurri appare poco lineare e molto contraddittoria sia nelle parole che nei fatti. In base a quanto sostenuto, Manganiello sarebbe stato preferito all'"indigesto" Sozza, mentre i dirigenti interisti avrebbero dato il loro benestare su Mariani (sgradito), Colombo (gradito) e Doveri (sgradito). L'ironia del caso aggiunge alla matassa le polemiche dopo le direzioni degli arbitri ritenuti favorevoli e la riconferma come fischietti dei nerazzurri di quelli considerati contrati, restituendo un quadro che non si regge in piedi.
Mariani e i dubbi sull'Inter
“Non c'è stata alcuna pressione dell'Inter, le designazioni sono state fatte in autonomia e indipendenza”, ha ribadito di recente Antonio D'Avirro, avvocato di Gianluca Rocchi. Al contrario: se ci sono state pressioni, queste sono provenute dagli stessi direttori di gara. In occasione della già citata partita fra Torino e Inter, infatti, è stato lo stesso arbitro Mariani a esprimere i propri dubbi sull'opportunità di tornare ad arbitrare i nerazzurri dopo l'errore commesso durante Napoli-Inter 3-1 in favore dei padroni di casa. Rimostranze che non facevano altro che mettere in luce l'assenza di serenità del fischietto di Aprilia, alla pari della situazione di disagio di Fabio Maresca e Marco Guida, che da anni non incrociano gli azzurri.
In altre parole, normali e ricorrenti episodi che non aggiungono nulla di nuovo al castello di carte costruito dagli inquirenti, ma confermano la diffusa pratica di tenere presente le condizioni psicologiche degli arbitri al momento delle designazioni. Nessuna macchinazione, dunque, ma un “non sistema” basato semplicemente sul buon senso. Lo stesso che starebbe portando all'archiviazione del caso davanti alla giustizia ordinaria, in attesa di conoscere le mosse della Procura FIGC.

The picture that is emerging from the investigations, in fact, shows not only the absence of collusion between Inter and Gianluca Rocchi for the purposes of refereeing appointments, but that it was the referees themselves, at times, who expressed doubts and grievances when called upon to referee matches for the Nerazzurri.

The hypothesis supported by the investigators according to which the choice of referees was often made in such a way as to fulfill Inter's wishes is therefore not being confirmed. In particular, Inter-Verona and Bologna-Inter in the 2024/2025 championship, the Italian Cup derby and Turin-Inter in the recently concluded Serie A were targeted. However, the intermittent interceptions and the numerous gaps have not revealed elements to support the thesis put forward, and after more than a year of investigations the only person under investigation for complicity in sports fraud remains Gianluca Rocchi. Inter managers, therefore, continue to be strangers to the facts, as are alleged individuals who would have acted at an intermediate level.
Even the arguments are not convincing. The designation of "welcome" and "unwelcome" referees to favor the Nerazzurri appears not very linear and very contradictory in both words and deeds. According to what was claimed, Manganiello would have been preferred to the "indigestible" Sozza, while the Inter managers would have given their approval to Mariani (unwelcome), Colombo (welcome) and Doveri (unwelcome). The irony of the case adds to the skein the controversy after the directions of the referees considered favorable and reconfirms it as whistles of the Nerazzurri of those considered contravened, returning a picture that cannot stand up.
Mariani e i dubbi sull'Inter
“There was no pressure from Inter, the appointments were made autonomously and independently,” recently reiterated Antonio D'Avirro, Gianluca Rocchi's lawyer. On the contrary: if there was pressure, it came from the race directors themselves. In fact, on the occasion of the aforementioned match between Turin and Inter, it was referee Mariani himself who expressed his doubts about the opportunity to return to refereeing the Nerazzurri after the mistake made during Napoli-Inter 3-1 in favor of the home team. Complaints that did nothing but highlight the lack of serenity of Aprilia's whistle, like the uncomfortable situation of Fabio Maresca and Marco Guida, who have not crossed paths with the Azzurri for years.
In other words, normal and recurring episodes that do not add anything new to the house of cards built by the investigators, but confirm the widespread practice of taking into account the psychological conditions of the referees at the time of designations. No machination, therefore, but a "non-system" based simply on common sense. The same thing that would lead to the dismissal of the case before ordinary justice, waiting to know the moves of the FIGC Prosecutor's Office.
