Pirlo è il primo nome sulla lista di Paolo Maldini. Il nuovo Direttore Tecnico della Nazionale italiana sembra voler ripartire da Berlino. La storia, l’amicizia, la fiducia, il legame affettivo sono da sempre i valori che contraddistinguono la carriera sportiva di Maldini. E questi sono gli elementi che sta cercando di portare anche in questa sua nuova avventura azzurra. Si spiega così la virata improvvisa sull’ex allenatore della Juventus.

Pirlo prende quota per la nazionale. Mancini e Conte, in pole position fino alla settimana scorsa, sembrano aver perso quota nelle ultime ore. Nei giorni scorsi erano circolate anche voci di un possibile arrivo sulla panchina della Nazionale di Stefano Pioli, ma soprattutto affascinava la candidatura di un mito del calcio europeo che risponde al nome di Pep Guardiola (che ha un rapporto di stima, amicizia e ammirazione con Maldini da più di quindici anni). Questa pista accende la fantasia dei tifosi ma al momento sembra difficilmente percorribile, per almeno due motivi: le dichiarazioni dello spagnolo di volersi fermare dopo gli anni con il Manchester City e lo stipendio a doppia cifra che la Federcalcio non potrebbe garantirgli.
Ed ecco allora che nelle ultime ore sembra prendere quota la candidatura di Andrea Pirlo.
La prima decisione importante
Paolo Maldini, dopo giorni di tira e molla, ha sciolto le riserve con la FIGC accettando il ruolo di Direttore Tecnico e presidente del Club Italia della Nazionale, firmando un contratto di quattro anni. Ad affiancarlo, nel ruolo di advisor, il brasiliano Leonardo. Ora, insieme al Presidente della Federcalcio Malagò, stanno discutendo per trovare la figura più adatta a guidare gli azzurri.
Proprio Malagò, in occasione della Partita del Cuore all’Aquila, ha rassicurato sul fatto che il nuovo Ct verrà scelto il prima possibile, non escludendo nè confermando nessuno dei nomi che sono circolati in questi ultimi giorni. La decisione sarà presa in condivisione con Maldini e Leonardo, sarà scelto un profilo compatibile con gli obiettivi sportivi ed economici sui quali è impostata la nuova gestione della Nazionale.
Non solo il duello Mancini-Conte per la panchina dell’Italia, dunque.
Le tempistiche per la decisione saranno brevi, questa potrebbe e dovrebbe essere la settimana decisiva per arrivare alla scelta del tecnico che dovrà riportare la Nazionale al prossimo Mondiale, dopo tre mancate qualificazioni consecutive.

E da buon milanista, il nuovo Dt potrebbe guardare a qualche collega e amico che stima e che ha incrociato la sua strada da calciatore o dirigente. Risponde all’identikit Andrea Pirlo, ritenuto adatto per la sua visione calcistica e la profonda conoscenza dell’ambiente azzurro.
Tuttavia, la carriera da allenatore del 47enne fino ad ora non è certo costellata di grandi successi. Una stagione alla Juventus, poi in Turchia con il Faith Karagümrük e di nuovo in Italia alla Sampdoria in serie B, dove è stato esonerato nel 2024. Dal luglio 2025 è allenatore dello United FC, squadra degli Emirati Arabi.
