Sembrava che Amorim potesse riabbracciare il suo pupillo, Morten Hjulmand, con cui vinse il campionato portoghese nel 2024 e invece rimane a mani vuote. L'Atlético Madrid con un’offerta da 40 milioni più 5 di bonus si assicura le prestazioni del centrocampista danese. Sfumato dunque il primo obiettivo rossonero dell’estate.

Morten Hjulmand è ormai nei taccuini delle squadre più importanti d’Europa grazie alle sue prestazioni convincenti a Lisbona, ma nelle ultime settimane aveva scatenato l’interesse di Juventus e Milan. Per la Juventus era un affare proibitivo visti i costi e subito si è defilata. Il Milan con l’arrivo di Amorim ha immediatamente cercato un modo per avviare una trattativa con i portoghesi, ma Simeone ha insistito con la dirigenza affinché superassero la concorrenza. Inizialmente le prime offerte sono state respinte, ma grazie alla volontà di Simeone i dirigenti dell’Atletico hanno offerto 40 milioni parte fissa più 5 milioni di bonus, cifra che è stata ritenuta corretta dallo Sporting. A quel punto mancava la quadra col giocatore che, non aspettando il suo ex allenatore e volendo fortemente giocare in Spagna, ha accettato l’offerta proposta, ovvero un contratto di 5 anni per circa 6 milioni netti all’anno secondo le testate spagnole. Anche il Lecce ci guadagna, grazie al contributo di solidarietà della Fifa, 2 milioni di euro. Quindi tutte le squadre sono soddisfatte dell’affare fatto, tranne il Milan che dovrà ripiegare su altri obiettivi.

Morten Hjulmand è un calciatore danese cresciuto nel Copenaghen, che fu acquistato dagli austriaci dell’Admira Wacker all’età di 19 anni e con loro esordirà fra i professionisti. Nei due anni e mezzo che resterà in terra austriaca totalizzerà 74 partite con un gol e 6 assist. A gennaio 2021 viene acquistato dal Lecce, divenendo subito un pilastro del centrocampo. L’anno successivo otterrà la promozione in Serie A.
