Un tempo bloccava palloni per non farli finire in porta, ora blocca anche i ladri: Francesco Toldo, 54 anni, ex portiere di Fiorentina ed Inter, ha sventato il furto di una bicicletta in centro a Milano.
Si è lanciato all’inseguimento di un giovane che stava cercando di portare via una due ruote ad un suo coetaneo, disarcionandolo e restituendo il maltolto al legittimo proprietario.
Il racconto
Qualche giorno fa Toldo, ex estremo difensore nerazzurro, stava parcheggiando il suo scooter in via Agnello (in centro a Milano), quando ha assistito ad una scena sospetta: un ragazzo inseguiva un suo coetaneo in bicicletta, dopo aver chiesto a quest’ultimo cosa stesse succedendo, ha capito che era in corso un furto. Senza esitazione si è lanciato all’inseguimento del ladro, raggiungendolo all’altezza di corso Vittorio Emanuele II, lo ha disarcionato dalla bicicletta per poi restituirla al derubato.
“È stato incredibile, vedendo la scena ho capito subito quello che era accaduto. Appena il ragazzo me ne ha dato conferma, non ci ho pensato nemmeno un secondo e sono partito a tutta velocità”.
Gli applausi della gente
Molte le persone in strada che hanno assistito alla scena e si sono radunate intorno al luogo dell’accaduto. Il ragazzo derubato ha subito ringraziato ed abbracciato Toldo, poi anche gli altri hanno cominciato a riconoscerlo e l’applauso è scattato spontaneo. “Le persone in strada mi hanno riconosciuto e tutti mi volevano abbracciare”.
Grande coraggio e prontezza di riflessi per l’ex portiere, che però si schernisce “Non sono un eroe. Semplicemente ho fatto quello che era giusto fare”.
Francesco Toldo è considerato uno dei migliori portieri della sua generazione ed ha conquistato tantissimi trofei con i club nei quali ha giocato (fra tutti Fiorentina ed Inter) ed è stato vice campione d’Europa con la Nazionale Italiana nel 2000. Da ricordare la storica partita contro l’Olanda, nella quale fu protagonista assoluto parando ben 3 rigori, con una prestazione che permise agli azzurri di arrivare in finale.
Naturale quindi che sia stato di ispirazione per le nuove generazioni, con tanti giovani che, indossati i guantoni, lo hanno preso come modello. Uno di questi è Ivan Provedel, neo portiere dell’Inter “Ho iniziato ad essere interista e a voler fare il portiere dopo aver visto Toldo in campo, sono molto legato a lui per questo motivo”.
Nel pomeriggio del 9 luglio è stato proprio l’ex nazionale ad accogliere il nuovo arrivato Provedel nella sede dell’Inter, dove ha fatto gli “onori di casa”. E poche ore dopo si è ritrovato a sventare il furto di bicicletta.
Prontezza di riflessi, rapidità, sprezzo del pericolo: le doti del grande portiere non vanno in pensione! Dopo tante parate, un'uscita a valanga per bloccare un malcapitato ladruncolo e restituire la bici al suo legittimo proprietario.

A few days ago Toldo, former Nerazzurri goalkeeper, was parking his scooter in via Agnello (in the center of Milan) when he witnessed a suspicious scene: a boy was chasing a boy of his age on a bicycle, after asking the latter what was happening, he realized that a theft was taking place. Without hesitation he launched himself in pursuit of the thief, reaching him at Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, he unseated him from his bicycle and then returned it to the robbed man. "It was incredible, seeing the scene I immediately understood what had happened. As soon as the boy confirmed it to me, I didn't even think about it for a second and I took off at full speed."
Gli applausi della gente
Many people on the street witnessed the scene and gathered around the scene. The robbed boy immediately thanked and hugged Toldo, then the others also began to recognize him and the applause broke out spontaneously. "The people on the street recognized me and everyone wanted to hug me." Great courage and quick reflexes for the former goalkeeper, who however scoffs: "I'm not a hero. I simply did what was right to do."
Francesco Toldo is considered one of the best goalkeepers of his generation and won many trophies with the clubs he played for (among all Fiorentina and Inter) and was European vice champion with the Italian national team in 2000. Worth remembering is the historic match against the Netherlands, in which he was the absolute protagonist, saving 3 penalties, with a performance that allowed the Azzurri to reach the final.
It is therefore natural that he was an inspiration for the new generations, with many young people who, having put on their gloves, took him as a model. One of these is Ivan Provedel, Inter's new goalkeeper. "I started being an Inter supporter and wanting to be a goalkeeper after seeing Toldo on the pitch, I'm very close to him for this reason." On the afternoon of 9 July it was the former international who welcomed the new arrival Provedel to the Inter headquarters, where he did the "honours of the house". And a few hours later he found himself foiling the bicycle theft.
