Nelle ultime ore, gli agenti dell’ex difensore del Manchester City hanno proposto nuovamente John Stones all'Inter. Rimasto svincolato dopo la scadenza del contratto lo scorso 30 giugno, l’inglese era già stato accostato ai nerazzurri nei mesi precedenti ed ora è tornato di nuovo nei pensieri di Beppe Marotta, che sta cercando di capire la fattibilità dell’operazione a costo zero.
Che l’Inter sia alla ricerca di almeno due difensori non è di certo una novità. Una necessità dettata dagli addii registrati in questa sessione di mercato e dall’incertezza del futuro di Benjamin Pavard. È proprio in questa direzione che si sta muovendo la dirigenza nerazzurra. Dopo i primi contatti con il Chelsea per Trevoh Chalobah (trattativa ormai in fase di stallo) e con il Como pronto ad affondare il colpo in queste ore, rispunta il nome di John Stones.

L’apice di questa “trasformazione” è arrivato durante la finale di Champions League nel 2023, proprio contro l’Inter di Simone Inzaghi. Dopo aver conquistato 19 trofei con il Manchester City, il giocatore è ora alla ricerca di una nuova sfida. E l’Inter potrebbe rappresentare l’occasione giusta.

L’Inter non ha mai avuto dubbi sulla qualità di Stones e sulla sua funzionalità al progetto di Cristian Chivu, ma ci sono altri parametri che la società sta valutando prima di affondare il colpo.
La linea tracciata da Oaktree è ormai chiara: investire su profili giovani e con costi sostenibili. Il profilo del giocatore inglese sembrerebbe andare nella direzione opposta (32 anni), ma difficilmente Beppe Marotta si lascerebbe sfuggire un’opportunità del genere. Sotto questo aspetto bisognerà ragionare con Oaktree, ma non è il problema maggiore.

A frenare realmente la dirigenza nerazzurra sono gli infortuni riportati dal giocatore nelle ultime due stagioni, che lo hanno tenuto lontano dai campi di gioco per circa 9 mesi. Tra i più gravi ricordiamo l’infortunio alla coscia,che nella stagione 24/25 lo ha fermato per circa 3 mesi, e la ricaduta dell’inverno scorso. In totale ha saltato ben 58 partite, un bilancio che fa ovviamente ragionare Marotta e Ausilio sulla convenienza del colpo.

A ciò si aggiunge la questione economica. È vero che l’Inter non pagherebbe il cartellino del giocatore, ma il suo ultimo stipendio è pari a circa 9 milioni di euro netti all’anno, una cifra irraggiungibile momentaneamente per la società nerazzurra, disposta a spingersi al massimo fino ai 5 milioni attualmente percepiti da Pavard, la metà della richiesta del'inglese.
I prossimi giorni ci diranno se a prevalere saranno le indubbie qualità del giocatore o le incognite che Marotta e Ausilio stanno valutando per decidere se portare avanti la trattativa o puntare su un altro profilo.
